Why should I consider Coles Travel Insurance?
Coles Travel Insurance is a convenient option for travellers booking their travel using FlyBuys. The policies are simple, straightforward and easy to understand. There are only three options to choose from, which can help you avoid analysis paralysis. The policies automatically cover many activities that other insurers make you pay for, including skiing and cruising.
The insurer for Coles Travel Insurance is Zurich Australian Insurance Limited and is underwritten by CoverMore.
What policies does Coles offers?
- Domestic travel insurance. If you’re staying within Australia’s borders, Coles domestic travel insurance offers bare-bones bones policy, covering you if you have to cancel your trip or if your luggage or travel documents get lost, stolen or damaged.
- International cover. This is the basic form of international travel protection, covering you for trip cancellation, medical emergencies, lost luggage and emergency accommodation.
- International comprehensive cover. This is a step up from international cover, giving you protection for everything international cover does plus more, including theft of money, loss of income and disability protection.
What do the policies cover?
If you choose to take out the Coles domestic travel insurance policy, you'll be eligible for the following benefits:
- 24/7 emergency assistance
- $2,000 in cover for luggage, credit cards, personal belongings and travel documents
- $10,000 in cancellation cover for flights booked through FlyBuys Travel in the same transaction as this cover
This basic international policy might not have all the bell and whistles of the comprehensive policy, but it still gives you plenty of cover. With this policy, you’ll get:
- 24/7 worldwide emergency assistance
- Unlimited overseas medical expenses
- Emergency dental expenses
- Unlimited trip cancellation or amendment costs
- Unlimited expenses for family or travel companion to be with you during an emergency
- Rental car insurance excess cover
- Personal liability
This is the Coles policy that gives international travellers the most protection. With international comprehensive, you get:
- 24/7 worldwide emergency assistance
- Unlimited overseas medical expenses
- Emergency dental expenses
- Unlimited trip cancellation or amendment costs
- Unlimited expenses for family or travel companion to be with you during an emergency
- Rental car insurance excess cover
- Personal liability
- Cover for your cash if it is stolen
- Disability, lost income and accidental death protection
- Money for incidentals if you are hospitalised
What about skiing and motorcycle cover?
Many travel insurance companies make you pay more if you want to take part in specialised activities that can be considered a little riskier – like skiing, motorcycle riding or going on a cruise.
The good thing about Coles travel insurance is that these activities are automatically covered so you don’t need to worry about adding them to your policy. However, there are a couple of rules you need to follow if you want to be eligible to claim:
Motorcycle cover
- If are driving a motorcycle, you need to have a valid Australian licence and a valid licence for the country you’re in (or if you’re a passenger, the driver needs to be licenced in the country you’re in).
- The motorcycle engine capacity must be 200cc or less
- You must be wearing a helmet
- You must not be racing or participating in a professional capacity
Ski cover
- You must be skiing or snowboarding on-piste (on a marked path or slope)
- You must not be racing or participating in a professional capacity
