Regardless of where you are travelling to, you need to have cover for unforeseen emergency travel expenses. Even if you’re travelling domestically it is a good idea to have travel insurance. While the thought of something happening to you or your family is unpleasant, being prepared can save you from that nightmare becoming a reality.
Due to the often substantial cost of being hospitalised as a visitor in any part of the world, having overseas emergency medical coverage is especially important. Being hospitalised for something as minor as a non-lethal allergic reaction can be incredibly expensive depending on where you are, so it is always a wise choice to purchase travel insurance. You will be reimbursed for the amounts and expenses determined by your insurance policy, so you can be worry-free when you’re travelling on your own or with your family.
National Seniors Australia provides several seniors travel insurance coverage options for domestic and international travel, and promises to provide flexible and affordable policies. All policies includes unlimited reimbursement for any overseas medical expenses, depreciation costs (in regards to loss of luggage and personal effects), cover for pre-existing medical conditions (for a possible additional premium and subject to application), and trip cancellation with deposit cover.
Most pre-existing medical conditions are automatically covered under any insurance policy, though there are some exceptions as specified by the National Seniors organisation. To have your condition covered, you must prove that you have not been admitted to hospital for any reason for the past 2 years, meet the specified age limit, and your condition is listed on National Seniors list of covered pre-determined ailments. If your condition is not listed, you will not be eligible for coverage, unless National Seniors offers you coverage after a medical assessment.
You will also be not covered if you travel to countries under a “Do Not Travel” advisory as indicated by the Australian government, and National Seniors will not provide reimbursement for trip cancellation due to change of mind or anticipated events.
Each plan is available for single or multiple travellers, so you are able to get cover for your family members if they meet the pre-determined requirements. There are two plans that you can choose from if you are travelling overseas:
This is the most cost-effective plan from National Seniors. Though it does cover unlimited amounts when it comes to emergency medical and evacuation expenses (not including dental), the plan also provides limited benefits for:
The International Premium plan is the most comprehensive plan. You get all of the benefits of the International Basic plan and much more. Cancellation costs are subjected to unlimited cover in the Premium plan. Other benefits include:
Other insurance options are the Frequent Traveller Plan, which mirrors the International Premium plan in benefits and coverage amounts, but covers you for multiple trips domestic and international trips for 12 months.
If you’re planning on domestic travel, you can select the Australia Only plan for coverage on travel within Australia. This plan provides pre-determined amounts of cover for:
