Pros

  • Cover for pregnancy is automatically included up to the 24th week and can be extended if you have medical clearance from a doctor.
  • Specific benefits are included for victims of domestic violence and parents, including counselling service and childcare fees.

Cons

  • Although many adventure activities are included as standard, it’s not possible to add activities such as outdoor rock climbing with equipment, parachuting, or any professional sports.
  • There’s no option to add pre-existing medical conditions beyond those that are already named in the policy, which could leave some travellers at risk.

Exclusions

Unfortunately, insurance policies don’t cover everything. Generally, Stella will not pay your claim if it relates to:

  • Unlawful, reckless or unreasonably unsafe behaviour by you

  • An act of war, invasion or revolution
  • Insolvency of a travel agent, tour operator or accommodation provider

Here's the bottom line about Stella Travel Insurance

Stella Travel Insurance is highly-customisable, so it can be tailored to suit a wide range of different travellers, trips and situations.

There are also some unique benefits within Stella’s policy, including extended cover for pregnancy complications if you have medical clearance from a doctor, and specific benefits for victims of domestic violence.

However, even when adding all possible benefits, it’s not necessarily the most comprehensive policy on the market. The maximum amount claimable per item is $2,000 which could leave some travellers exposed - particularly in terms of jewellery or technology.
