Points give me access to money-can't-buy experiences

Finder's head of editorial Sarah Megginson has used frequent flyer points to get flight upgrades and holidays for over 10 years – including a business class trip from Brisbane to LA for her family of 5.
She also uses points to upgrade and save on business class flights in Australia, with Finder analysis showing each 1 Qantas Point used on an upgrade is typically worth between 2 and 8 cents.
Megginson gets around 500,000 Qantas Points a year by collecting them in just about every way she can – including bonus point offers on frequent flyer credit cards.
Depending on the mix of credit cards, Megginson said she would spend around $300 to $800 per year on fees.
"I see the fees as an investment into this lifestyle I'd never have otherwise," she said.
Bottom line? Anyone can take advantage of frequent flyer points – and with the right credit card you can get rewarded for money you were going to spend anyway.

I am going overseas in July and am trying to work out if I should apply for a new credit card which will offer me free travel insurance as well as no charge on exchange rates for overseas purchases. I currently have a National Visa card with a $500 limit (self imposed)which is cleared every month and a Ignite Mastercard with a balance of $ 2,300.00. which I am reducing by at least $ 400 per month.
Hi Anne,
Thanks for your question.
Your first stop will need to be this page where we compare travel money options. If you apply for a travel-friendly credit card, you can transfer the balance of your other credit cards and get an interest rate reduction. If you do this though, you won’t get any interest-free days on purchases. The travel insurance benefit offered with premium credit cards will save you money before you leave the country, and you are more than likely going to be paying for your flights with a credit card, so you may as well get the most you can. You may also compare credit cards with no foreign transaction fee. You can select the “Go to Site” button of your preferred credit card to proceed with your application. You can also contact the provider if you have specific questions. A gentle reminder, please ensure to read through the relevant product disclosure statement and terms and conditions to ensure that you got everything covered before you apply.
I hope this helps.
Cheers,
Jacob
How do I find out how many frequent flyer points I have accrued?
Hi Chris. Thanks for your question. If you’re looking to find out how many frequent flyer points you have accrued, please log in to your frequent flyer account. Say you have a frequent flyer account with Qantas, you would log in to your online account. Here you can spend your points on flights and other things and manage your account. Jacob.
We have a Citibank Platinum Card, which we pay an annual fee of $299 for both.
We receive one point for every dollar spent, but when we transfer those points to Krisflyer Singapore Airlines, we lose 30% on the transfer. We can transfer to Qantas at 100% but we use Krisflyer now. We are looking to maximise our frequent flyer points, and we want a lower annual fee. Also, which cards offer an upfront amount of frequent flyer points as a bonus. We recently got an American Express Platinum Edge card, which is great, but we still need a Visa or a MasterCard with points as there are many places that don’t take American Express yet.
Hi Bev,
Thanks for your question.
You may consider credit cards that earn Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer Miles.
You may also see our guide on transferring rewards to frequent flyer programs.
Please ensure that you meet all the eligibility criteria and read through the details of the needed requirements as well as the relevant Product Disclosure Statements/Terms and Conditions when comparing your options before making a decision on whether it is right for you.
I hope this helps.
Cheers,
Jacob
what is the difference between frequent flyer points and velocity points. Also do you earn points for everything you spend using a card(which I don’t have yet) including using B-Pay
Hi Lain. Thanks for your question. Velocity Points can be redeemed for goods and flights with Virgin while Qantas Points can be redeemed with Qantas – different airlines. Some lenders allow you to earn points on BPAY transactions while others don’t. Can you please be a little more specific so I can give a better answer? Jacob.
Hi Jacob,
Can you confirm in your schedule above which
Mastercard or Visa
Give Flyer Points
Allow Points on Bpay Transactions
And even better if uncapped.
Many thanks.
Hi Kieran,
Thanks for your inquiry.
You may refer to our range of credit cards that consider bills an eligible purchase to earn frequent flyer points. You can select the “Go to Site” button of your preferred credit card to proceed with your application. You can also contact the provider if you have specific questions. A gentle reminder, please ensure to read through the relevant product disclosure statement and terms and conditions to ensure that you got everything covered before you apply.

Hi,
I am currently looking for a credit card with;
1) low or no annual fee
2)Low purchase/ interest rate
3) no foreign transaction fees
4)a reward program (frequent flyer is preferred)
I am looking to book an overseas holiday over the next few months and would like to take advantage of a credit card.
Hi Vineeta,
No such card exists. You can get a card with no annual fee and rewards, but not all four of the features combined that you’ve suggested.
You may check American Express cards as it offers frequent flyer credit cards with no annual fee. 28 Degrees offers no foreign transaction fees and no annual fee, but it does not have rewards.
Alternatively, the Bankwest Zero Platinum has no foreign transaction fees and no annual fee but no rewards, while the Bankwest More Platinum MasterCard has a rewards program, no foreign currency conversion fee but does have an annual fee. You can also try to compare travel money options.
I hope this helps.
Regards,
Jacob
