bcu Credit Cards

bcu-bank

With competitive interest rates, low annual fees and interest-free days, bcu credit cards provide a range of features to suit your needs.

bcu was established in the early 1970s when a small group of business owners from the North Coast region of NSW decided to create an alternative to the banks. Originally known as the Nambucca Banana Growers’ Federation Members Credit Union, its name changed to Bananacoast Community Credit Union Ltd in 1974.

Now known as bcu, this credit union's network stretches from Queensland's Sunshine Coast in the north to Port Macquarie in the south. It offers a variety of financial services and products for individuals, businesses, kids, students, households, retirees and community groups. When it comes to credit cards, bcu has a low-cost option designed to suit different spending habits and needs.

Learn more about Rewards Credit Cards

Benefits of bcu credit cards

bcu credit cards provide the following benefits:

  • Single interest rate

While most credit cards charge different interest rates for purchases and cash advances, bcu credit cards apply the same interest rate for purchases as well as cash advances. If you use your credit card for a wide range of transactions and carry a balance, this feature can make it easier to calculate interest charges and budget for your repayments.

  • Unique rewards program

The bcu credit card rewards program allows you to redeem points through any merchant in Australia who accepts EFTPOS payments. This allows you to get rewards you really want, rather than choosing something from a catalogue.

  • Easy access to money

You can use a bcu credit card for spending in-person, online or over the phone, anywhere Visa is accepted. You can also use your card to withdraw money from ATMs in Australia and overseas.

  • Visa benefits

Both bcu credit cards come with Visa payWave technology. This allows you to make contactless transactions at participating merchants with no need for a PIN when you spend less than $100. Visa also offers zero liability insurance against fraud, and additional security for online shopping through the Verified by Visa service.

How to apply for a bcu credit card?

You can apply for a bcu credit card over the phone, by visiting a branch, or online. To complete an online application, simply click on the "Go to Site" button next to the credit card you want. Before you begin the application process, make sure you meet the following eligibility requirements.

Eligibility criteria

  • You must be at least 18 years old
  • You must be an Australian citizen or a permanent resident of Australia
  • You must not have any outstanding defaults or judgements on your credit file or be an un-discharged bankrupt

Required information

If you meet the application criteria above, you can start the application process. You'll need to provide the following information:

  • Personal information. This includes your complete name, residential address, email address, phone number, driver's licence number and the number of people dependent on you.
  • Employment details. This includes your employment status, occupation, and your employer’s name, phone number, and address.
  • Financial details. You will be required to provide information about tou income, expenses, liabilities, and assets. This includes any shares and assets (such as a home or savings), rent and living expenses as well as any other loans or credit cards you have.
  • Additional cardholder. You have the option of requesting an additional cardholder for your account. If you want to share your credit card account with a spouse or family member, you will have to provide their full name, email address and contact number. Note that you will still be responsible for all transactions on the account.

What happens after you apply?

After you submit a completed application online, bcu will assess your application. If you submit it within NSW business hours, Monday to Friday, you could get a response on the same day. A bcu representative will get in touch if any additional information is required to complete the application.

If you’re not a bcu member, you’ll also have to complete an identity verification process before you receive your card. To complete this process, you may have to visit a bcu branch and provide identification documents such as your driver's licence, birth certificate or passport.

Frequently asked questions

Here are answers to some of the most common questions about bcu credit cards. If there’s something else you want to find out about these cards, feel free to ask by using the form at the bottom of this page.

How long does it take to complete the online application?

If you keep all the required information close at hand, the application should take around 10–15 minutes to complete.

Do these cards charge ongoing account keeping fees?

Both cards charge an annual account fee, but you don’t have to pay any monthly fees.

Do I have to pay a fee to join the rewards program?

No. When you get your bcu rewarder credit card, you also get enrolment in the rewarder program at no extra cost.

How do I earn reward points?

Points are automatically added to your rewarder account. When you use your bcu rewarder credit card to make eligible purchases, you earn $1 in points for every $150 you spend. You also receive 9,000 free points when you activate your card, which are worth $60.

How can I find out how many points I have?

You can find this out by logging in to your rewarder account online at www.rewarderpoints.com.au.

How do I redeem reward points?

When you apply for a bcu rewarder credit card, you also get a Rewarder card. This is the card you use to access your reward points. You can use this card to make purchases at any merchant in Australia that accepts payments via EFTPOS. Remember that 150 reward points are equal to AUD$1.

Do my reward points expire and is there a maximum limit?

Reward points expire after three years. The maximum number of points you can earn each year is 60,000 points.

Can I request for a change in credit limit?

Yes, you can ask bcu to increase or decrease your credit limit, but there is no obligation on bcu to comply with your request. If bcu agrees to decrease your card’s limit, you should make sure that the outstanding balance does not exceed the new limit.

What should I do if I lose my card?

If you lose your card or wish to report unauthorised use or theft you should call 1300 228 228 as soon as possible.

Can I cancel my card?
