Bank of Queensland Credit Cards

BOQ-logo

BOQ credit cards provide features to suit your requirements including balance transfers, low rates, Q Rewards® and platinum card benefits.

Bank of Queensland (BOQ) began operations in 1874, and is now amongst the leading regional banks in Australia. It has over 250 branches across the country, and it offers an array of personal and business banking products and services. Its personal banking offerings include everyday accounts, savings accounts, personal loans, home loans, insurance solutions, and credit cards.

BOQ recognises that people have different requirements when looking for credit cards, so it offers three distinct kinds. On one end of the spectrum is a low rate card that can keep your interest to a minimum and on the other end is a platinum card that gives you the ability to earn double the usual reward points.

Types of credit cards from the Bank of Queensland

BOQ, as mentioned, provides three kinds of credit cards, which include a low rate card, a rewards card and a platinum card. If you plan to keep balances rolling in your account from one month to the next, getting the low rate card might be a good idea. If not, you can consider getting the rewards or platinum card. Details of what you can expect are as follows:

  • Low rate credit cards

The BOQ Low Rate Visa card is like any other typical low rate card, where you have to pay a low ongoing interest rate on purchases. It comes with an introductory 0% p.a. balance transfer rate that stays in place for 12 months. By paying your account’s outstanding balance in full each month, you can make use of as many as 55 interest-free days on purchases.

  • Rewards credit cards

The BOQ Blue Visa card and BOQ Platinum Visa Credit Card fall under this category, giving you the ability to earn reward points as per your spending. Membership to the Q Rewards® Program is free, and you can earn up to 2 reward points for every dollar spent on eligible purchases. Both cards come with an introductory balance transfer rate and up to 55 interest-free days on purchases.

Learn more about Rewards Credit Cards

  • Platinum credit cards

With a platinum card, you can expect more in terms of features, but also expect to pay a higher annual fee and interest rate. The BOQ Platinum Visa card comes linked to the Q Rewards® Program, and you get to earn 2 reward points for every dollar spent on eligible purchases. This card offers complimentary international travel insurance, extended warranty insurance, and access to a round-the-clock concierge service. Its 0% p.a. balance transfer rate stays in place for the first 18 months, and you can make use of up to 55 interest-free days on purchases.

Benefits of using a Bank of Queensland credit card

When you get a BOQ credit card you can look forward to a number of benefits, which include the following:

  • Online and mobile banking

BOQ gives cardholders access to its online and mobile banking platforms for free. While you can use these platforms to set up payments, you can also turn to them to get account related information and pay bills via BPAY.

  • Visa payWave

All new BOQ credit cards make use of Visa’s payWave technology. When you make a purchase of less than $100 at a merchant that supports this technology, you can use your card to make a contactless payment.

  • Financial hardship

There are instances when not all goes as per plan, and if, at any point, you feel you have problems in keeping up with your credit card repayments you can get in touch with BOQ’s financial hardship division. After a thorough consultation that takes into account your existing financial situation, you should be able to work on a revised payment plan.

How to apply for a Bank of Queensland credit card

I paid my Visa Platinum card 5 days early,as I was going away and would not be near a computer or bank. Now I have been charged an interest charge of $115 ,and the reason I have been told is it should have been paid on the due date and not earlier.I also have been told that I lose my 30 day interest free days, and can only get them back, once 2 months is up and I have paid the due amount on the due date.Is this correct.

      HaroldNovember 22, 2016Staff

      Hello Frank,

      Thank you for your inquiry.

Basically, if you have a late payment the provider will charge you an amount of “$10″. Since you mentioned you paid prior the due date but they still charged for an early payment. You may need to contact them directly to clarify this matter and if the fees they charged to you were under terms and conditions with your provider. For your additional reference you may be interested to read this article.

I hope this information has helped.

      Cheers,

      Hi Laureence,

      Thanks for your inquiry.

It may be best to get in touch with your bank’s rewards customer service directly if you wish to reclaim your credit card rewards points as they have the details and records of your account.

I am looking for a credit card that prevents on line gambling transactions

    • Staff
      MayOctober 6, 2016Staff

      Hi Kerry,

      Thank you for your question.

The following credit-card providers explicitly state that you can’t use your credit card for gambling transactions:

      BOQ
      Citibank
      Diners Club
      Suncorp Bank
      Virgin Money

These providers all list details of restricted transactions in their credit card terms and conditions that if you try to make a gambling transaction using a credit card from one of these companies, it may be declined.

      Cheers,
      May

      MayOctober 5, 2016Staff

      Hi Viviane,

      Thank you for your inquiry.

Yes, you can use your BOQ credit card overseas or in Hawaii. Just to confirm, though, which BOQ credit card you are referring to? The fees that may apply are:

      - Overseas Cash Advance Fee = 2% of the cash advance amount or minimum of $4.00
      - Overseas ATM Balance check = $2
      - Overseas ATM Withdrawal Fee = $5
      - Foreign Currency Conversion Fee (VISA) = 3.4% of transaction value

      Cheers,
      May

    • Staff
      AnndyMay 24, 2016Staff

      Hi Walter,

      Thanks for your question

If you would like to apply for a credit limit increase on your Bank of Queensland credit card, simply go to the “Manage your credit card” page then select the “Other Card Functions” button. From there, you can already submit an application for credit limit increase. Alternatively, you can also visit your nearest Bank of Queensland branch.

      I hope this helps.

      Cheers,

I had a look at portal. It does not answer my question. I am travelling overseas in 3 days, Do i present my signature card to enter a lounge facility who is participating with Visa card holders. Is that what is required or there are some airline lounges who will offer this to BOQ signature card holders.
      Please let me know.

    • Staff
      JonathanJuly 20, 2015Staff

Hi Inderjit, thanks for your response.

BOQ provides One complimentary Priority Pass™ Standard Membership, with unlimited lounge visits for the primary cardholder of the Signature Card. Signature cardholders will automatically be enrolled for the Priority Pass™ Standard Membership. It will take up to 15 working days for your Priority Pass™ card to arrive in the mail. Your membership card and air ticket will be required to enter a lounge facility. When presenting the Priority Pass card on entering the lounge, lounge staff will either electronically scan or take an imprint of the card and issue a ‘Record of Visit’ voucher or receipt to the cardholder or make a log entry. The cardholder must sign the ‘Record of Visit’ voucher or receipt, or sign the electronic reader (as applicable), which will also reflect the exact number of accompanying guests.

      Cheers,

      Jonathan

I qualify for the Platinum Credit Card for the Bank of Queensland. How long is the processing time if I apply personally to get approved? Once approved, can I use it immediately? Thank you very much.

    • Staff
      JonathanFebruary 3, 2015Staff

      Hi Joy_j,

      Thanks for your inquiry!

It generally takes about two weeks from application to receiving your card. Once you submit your application for a Bank of Queensland credit card, you will be contacted on the email you provided to confirm that your application has been received. You can check on the status of your Bank of Queensland credit card application at any time on the BOQ website. Enter the 17 digit application reference number provided to you by BOQ to see how your credit card application is progressing. Generally a card can be used upon activating it by contacting the lender/ bank once the card has been received.

      I hope this helps!

      Cheers,

      Jonathan
