Bank of Queensland Credit Cards

BOQ-logo

BOQ credit cards provide features to suit your requirements including balance transfers, low rates, Q Rewards and platinum card benefits.

Bank of Queensland (BOQ) began operations in 1874, and is now amongst the leading regional banks in Australia. It has over 250 branches across the country, and it offers an array of personal and business banking products and services. Its personal banking offerings include everyday accounts, savings accounts, personal loans, home loans, insurance solutions, and credit cards.

BOQ recognises that people have different requirements when looking for credit cards, so it offers three distinct kinds. On one end of the spectrum is a low rate card that can keep your interest to a minimum and on the other end is a platinum card that gives you the ability to earn double the usual reward points.

Types of credit cards from the Bank of Queensland

BOQ, as mentioned, provides three kinds of credit cards, which include a low rate card, a rewards card, and a platinum card. If you plan to keep balances rolling in your account from one month to the next, getting the low rate card might be a good idea. If not, you can consider getting the rewards or platinum card. Details of what you can expect are as follows:

  • Low rate credit cards

The BOQ low rate card is like any other typical low rate card, where you have to pay a low ongoing interest rate on purchases. It comes with an introductory 0% p.a. balance transfer rate that stays in place for 12 months. By paying your account’s outstanding balance in full each month you can make use of as many as 55 interest free days on purchases.

Benefits of using a Bank of Queensland Card

When you get a BOQ credit card you can look forward to a number of benefits, which include the following:

  • Online and mobile banking

BOQ gives cardholders access to its online and mobile banking platforms for free. While you can use these platforms to set up payments, you can also turn to them to get account related information and pay bills via BPAY.

  • Visa payWave

All new BOQ credit cards make use of Visa’s payWave technology. When you make a purchase of less than $100 at a merchant that supports this technology, you can use your card to make a contactless payment.

  • Financial hardship

There are instances when not all goes as per plan, and if, at any point, you feel you have problems in keeping up with your credit card repayments you can get in touch with BOQ’s financial hardship division. After a thorough consultation that takes into account your existing financial situation, you should be able to work on a revised payment plan.

How to apply for a Bank of Queensland credit card

You can walk into any BOQ branch to apply, you can apply over the phone, or you can submit an online application; but only after you make sure that you meet the following eligibility criteria:

Eligibility criteria

  • You’re over 18 years of age
  • You’re a permanent resident of Australia
  • You earn at least $35,000 p.a. to apply for the Platinum Visa card, and at least $25,000 p.a. to apply for the Blue Visa card or the Low Rate Visa card.

Required documents

  • Your complete name, date of birth, marital status, number of dependents, and driver’s license number
  • Your residential address, residential status, phone number, and email address
  • Your employment status and occupation along with your employer’s name and contact details
  • Details surrounding your income and expenses.

Frequently asked questions

What happens after I submit my application?

After BOQ receives your credit card application, it sends you an email confirming the same, and you can check the status of your application at any time using the BOQ website.

Can I get an additional card and how much would I have to pay?

Yes, you can get an additional card linked to your BOQ credit card. If you have the Low Rate or Blue card, you have to pay an additional card fee of $15. With the Platinum card, you can get up to four additional cards for free.

How do I increase my credit limit?

You have to submit an application to BOQ to increase your card’s credit limit, and for BOQ to approve your application you have to meet its lending criteria.

How can I make repayments towards my card?

You can use the Easi-Pay system to set up automatic payments, you can make payments via BPAY, you can make payments in person by visiting any BOQ branch, and you can mail in a cheque.

What should I do if I lose my card, and will I have to pay to get a replacement card?

You should report a lost or stolen card immediately by calling 1300 55 72 72 and speaking to a BOQ representative. A replacement card within Australia would cost you $15, and outside Australia you would have to pay $75.

I paid my Visa Platinum card 5 days early,as I was going away and would not be near a computer or bank. Now I have been charged an interest charge of $115 ,and the reason I have been told is it should have been paid on the due date and not earlier.I also have been told that I lose my 30 day interest free days, and can only get them back, once 2 months is up and I have paid the due amount on the due date.Is this correct.

      Hello Frank,

      Thank you for your inquiry.

Basically, if you have a late payment the provider will charge you an amount of “$10″. Since you mentioned you paid prior the due date but they still charged for an early payment. You may need to contact them directly to clarify this matter and if the fees they charged to you were under terms and conditions with your provider. For your additional reference you may be interested to read this article.

I hope this information has helped.

      Cheers,

I am looking for a credit card that prevents on line gambling transactions

    • Staff
      May | October 6, 2016

      Hi Kerry,

      Thank you for your question.

The following credit-card providers explicitly state that you can’t use your credit card for gambling transactions:

      BOQ
      Citibank
      Diners Club
      Suncorp Bank
      Virgin Money

These providers all list details of restricted transactions in their credit card terms and conditions that if you try to make a gambling transaction using a credit card from one of these companies, it may be declined.

      Cheers,
      May

      May | October 5, 2016

      Hi Viviane,

      Thank you for your inquiry.

Yes, you can use your BOQ credit card overseas or in Hawaii. Just to confirm, though, which BOQ credit card you are referring to? The fees that may apply are:

      - Overseas Cash Advance Fee = 2% of the cash advance amount or minimum of $4.00
      - Overseas ATM Balance check = $2
      - Overseas ATM Withdrawal Fee = $5
      - Foreign Currency Conversion Fee (VISA) = 3.4% of transaction value

      Cheers,
      May

Thanks for your question. Just to confirm though that you’ve come through to finder.com.au we are an Australian financial comparison website and general information service, not actually BOQ.

If you want to check what’s on offer with Q Rewards, please visit BOQ’s website.

How to register to receive invitation to increase the credit card limit?

    • Staff
      Anndy | May 24, 2016

      Hi Walter,

      Thanks for your question

If you would like to apply for a credit limit increase on your Bank of Queensland credit card, simply go to the “Manage your credit card” page then select the “Other Card Functions” button. From there, you can already submit an application for credit limit increase. Alternatively, you can also visit your nearest Bank of Queensland branch.

      I hope this helps.

      Cheers,
      Anndy

I had a look at portal. It does not answer my question. I am travelling overseas in 3 days, Do i present my signature card to enter a lounge facility who is participating with Visa card holders. Is that what is required or there are some airline lounges who will offer this to BOQ signature card holders.
      Please let me know.

Hi Inderjit, thanks for your response.

BOQ provides One complimentary Priority Pass™ Standard Membership, with unlimited lounge visits for the primary cardholder of the Signature Card. Signature cardholders will automatically be enrolled for the Priority Pass™ Standard Membership. It will take up to 15 working days for your Priority Pass™ card to arrive in the mail. Your membership card and air ticket will be required to enter a lounge facility. When presenting the Priority Pass card on entering the lounge, lounge staff will either electronically scan or take an imprint of the card and issue a ‘Record of Visit’ voucher or receipt to the cardholder or make a log entry. The cardholder must sign the ‘Record of Visit’ voucher or receipt, or sign the electronic reader (as applicable), which will also reflect the exact number of accompanying guests.

      Cheers,

      Jonathan

I currently have a visa card with B O Q. My husband has one as well but i am the primary card holder. How much is the annual fee for the two cards? Have had the cards for some years, is this the best annual fee and interest rate you can do as we are looking at going to a lower fee/interest rate card

Could you please clarify which BOQ Visa credit card you are using? The BOQ Low rate has a $0 p.a. annual fee for the first year and $55 p.a. afterwards, BOQ Blue Visa has a $49 p.a. annual fee and the BOQ Platinum has a $0 p.a. annual fee for the first year with $199 p.a. thereafter. I qualify for the Platinum Credit Card for the Bank of Queensland. How long is the processing time if I apply personally to get approved? Once approved, can I use it immediately? Thank you very much.

    • Staff
      Jonathan | February 3, 2015

      Hi Joy_j,

      Thanks for your inquiry!

It generally takes about two weeks from application to receiving your card. Once you submit your application for a Bank of Queensland credit card, you will be contacted on the email you provided to confirm that your application has been received. You can check on the status of your Bank of Queensland credit card application at any time on the BOQ website. Enter the 17 digit application reference number provided to you by BOQ to see how your credit card application is progressing. Generally a card can be used upon activating it by contacting the lender/ bank once the card has been received.

      I hope this helps!

      Cheers,

      Jonathan
