Points give me access to money-can't-buy experiences

Finder's head of editorial Sarah Megginson has used frequent flyer points to get flight upgrades and holidays for over 10 years – including a business class trip from Brisbane to LA for her family of 5.
She also uses points to upgrade and save on business class flights in Australia, with Finder analysis showing each 1 Qantas Point used on an upgrade is typically worth between 2 and 8 cents.
Megginson gets around 500,000 Qantas Points a year by collecting them in just about every way she can – including bonus point offers on frequent flyer credit cards.
Depending on the mix of credit cards, Megginson said she would spend around $300 to $800 per year on fees.
"I see the fees as an investment into this lifestyle I'd never have otherwise," she said.
Bottom line? Anyone can take advantage of frequent flyer points – and with the right credit card you can get rewarded for money you were going to spend anyway.

Hi there. I don’t have a credit card, haven’t had one for almost 15 years. Wondering what the transfer interest rate means? What is this fee for? I want to accumulate qantas points plus I am looking at low annual and interest rate fees.
I look forward to your reply.
Thanks.
Hi Julie,
Thanks for your question.
The promotional interest rate charged on balance transfers refers to how much you have to pay in interest when you transfer a balance from one credit card to a credit card with another institution. It’s generally a promotional interest rate. This is available to people who open a new credit card account. If you’re looking for more information on this, you can watch a video from Fred talking about the basics of balance transfers.
Frequent flyer and rewards credit cards generally come with the higher purchase, cash advance rates of interest and an annual fee. It’s a case of you don’t get something for anything. There are two Amex frequent flyer credit cards, the rest of the frequent flyer cards we compare charge an annual fee.
The most important consideration when selecting a frequent flyer or rewards credit card is that the net value of the rewards / FF miles must be greater than the card’s annual fee. If you’re not spending enough to recoup the cost of the card’s fee in rewards then the card is not a cost-effective product.
Hope this helps.
Regards,
Jacob
Which frequent flyer cards can be used to pay the Australian tax office and earn points for that payment?
Hi Rosie,
Thanks for your question.
American Express is the only credit card issuer at the moment whose terms and conditions states that you can earn points by paying tax in the Australian market, given that you do not use BPAY. You may also refer to our guide on earning rewards points-paying your tax bill.
Before applying, please ensure that you meet all the eligibility criteria and read through the details of the needed requirements as well as the relevant Product Disclosure Statements/Terms and Conditions when comparing your options before making a decision on whether it is right for you.
I hope this helps.
Cheers,
Jacob
Dear Jacob. Can you please tell me whether MasterCard or Visa gives me the highest points per dollar spent and which has no limit of how many points per year (no annual cap) for qantas frequent flayers points?
Can the Coles MasterCard be changed to a better MasterCard?
Hi Richard.
Thanks for your question.
If you would like to change the card you currently have, you can apply for another credit card through our website. Your old account will stay open, it’s up to you to close the account. To close your old account, you will need to make sure the account is paid in full and then call the lender and let them know you would like to cancel your credit card.
I hope this helps.
Hi Ali,
Thanks for your question.
Please refer to a range of Qantas Frequent Flyer Credit Cards with no annual points capping. The earn rates for MasterCard and Visa are very similar across a range of different cards. You can select the “Go to Site” button of your preferred credit card to proceed with your application. You can also contact the provider if you have specific questions. A gentle reminder, please ensure to read through the relevant product disclosure statement and terms and conditions to ensure that you got everything covered before you apply.
I hope this helps.
Cheers,
Jacob
thank you
How can I cash in my reward points
Hi Jeanette. Thanks for your question. You can do this online through your card issuer’s website. If you let me know which card you have I can offer some more information on how to redeem your rewards. Jacob.
