Frequently asked questions

The following are answers to commonly asked questions about Bank of Sydney credit cards.

What is the credit limit?

The minimum credit limit of the Classic Visa Card is $500, and for the Platinum Visa Card this changes to $6,000. The maximum depends on factors like how much you earn, your ability to repay, and your creditworthiness. You can ask the bank to increase or decrease your credit limit later, but they don’t have to agree to all such requests.

What is the minimum repayment?

Your minimum monthly repayment is either 2%.

Is the interest rate on cash advances the same as the interest rate on purchases?

No, the cash advance interest rate is higher than the purchase rate.

How do I earn cash rewards?

As a holder of the Platinum or Classic credit card you stand to earn cash rewards each time you or an additional card holder makes an eligible purchase. The cash rewards you earn depend on the card you have.

How do I use my cash rewards?

Your cash rewards accumulate in a savings or transaction account linked directly to your credit card, and you can use these cash rewards to make purchases. You can make purchases at any merchant in Australia who has an EFTPOS terminal, but you cannot redeem them outside Australia. You can also turn to an ATM to withdraw your cash rewards, by simply selecting the ‘savings’ option.

When do my cash rewards expire?

Your cash rewards expire when you or the bank closes or terminates your account; when the cash rewards program ceases to exist; or upon your demise.

How can I cancel my account?

You can cancel your Bank of Sydney credit card account at any time by getting in touch with the bank. You can also cancel any additional card linked to the main card at any time. Once you cancel the primary card, any additional card cancels automatically. If you request for a cancellation the bank contacts you to confirm cancellation details. You must return the card, and any additional cards, to the bank, or destroy them. After you cancel the card you remain liable for charges you make using the card before the termination request goes through. Moving forward, you have to keep making payments as per the original contract, and cancelling direct debits or any other regular payment is your responsibility.
