Congratulations, InsureandGo!
Unlike some insurers that provide a "safe list" of automatically covered conditions, InsureandGo uses a real-time medical screening tool to assess every condition individually. This approach often results in a more tailored policy that offers excellent value for money.
| Feature | Assessment Detail |
|---|---|
| Automatic Cover | None; all conditions must be declared. |
| Assessment Method | Online or phone-based medical questionnaire (approx. 5–10 minutes). |
| Cover Scope | Considers all conditions, including asthma, diabetes and heart conditions. |
| Wait Periods | Conditions diagnosed or treated in the last 5 years must be declared. |
| Approval | Many conditions are covered for no extra cost after screening. |
Verified Data & Insights: InsureandGo Australia (2025)
InsureandGo is one of a growing list of providers that offer some cover for Covid-19. Here are some of the main benefits you'll find under its Silver and Gold policies:
If you want to compare how other insurers handle Covid-19 claims, we've outlined some of the providers that cover pandemic-related expenses.

InsureandGo has three different plans to choose from: Bare Essentials, Silver and Gold. You can purchase these plans either as a Domestic policy for travel within Australia or One Trip for international travel. Further to this, InsureandGo also offers separate policies for cruise travel and backpackers.
Here are some of the key insured events you can expect from a policy:

Bare Essentials
Domestic or One Trip (International)

Silver
Domestic or One Trip (International)

Gold
Domestic or One Trip (International)
The insurance is underwritten by Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Company Limited and comes with a cooling-off period and excess.
The cooling-off period is 14 days which means if you decide the policy is not suitable after all, you can cancel and receive a full refund, provided you haven't made a claim and your trip hasn't started. The standard excess is $100 and is the amount you're required to pay when you make a claim. You can pay an additional premium to waive the excess or reduce your premium by doubling the excess.
"I was looking at travel insurance for my dad and found that InsureandGo Gold had the highest Finder Score. It covered what we were looking for, including unlimited cover for trip cancellation and overseas medical expenses. I was happy with the price and loved that there was also a 10% discount for signing up through Finder. Before signing up, I checked the claims process and liked that we could easily find the forms on their website to see what would need to be filled out as well as a contact email and number for any issues. The sign-up process was quite easy and involved a medical screening questionnaire which took about 5 minutes to complete."

These are some of the features that InsureandGo can cover during your trip and leading up to it. Some of these features (like pet care cover), are often only available as part of the most comprehensive policy on offer, Gold.

Depending on which type of policy you are purchasing, you can choose from the following options for an added premium, in addition to the benefits covered above:

When considering insurance policies, it's very important to review the circumstances under which you will not have your claim paid. These are usually referred to as general exclusions in your policy wording. InsureandGo won't cover you when your claim arises if:
This list is not exhaustive, so make sure you review InsureandGo's Product Disclosure Statement for a detailed breakdown of what is and isn't covered.
To minimise delays and address mixed feedback regarding claim wait times, follow this comprehensive guide to ensure your submission is processed as efficiently as possible.
You must register your claim within 30 days of completing your travel. The most efficient way to do this is via the InsureandGo online claims portal.
Lack of evidence is the primary cause of claim delays. Ensure you have the following ready:
InsureandGo's range of policies should suit most types of travellers. You'll find cover for business travel, non-residents and senior travellers up to 100 years of age. Even its most affordable policy, Bare Essentials, has unlimited cover for overseas medical expenses and a small amount of cover for personal belongings and additional emergency expenses.
No insurer is perfect, however, and one area that InsureandGo does fall behind on is how it covers pre-existing medical conditions. There aren't any conditions covered as standard, which means you'll have to complete a medical questionnaire to determine if you'll be covered and how much you'll need to pay on top of a standard policy.

if I am insured with Insure&Go (no existing medical conditions) and my partner (84yrs) has a medical issue will I be still covered re claim for return home or disruption to trip as a result of his issue
Hi Merilyn, this will depend on your agreement with the insurer. Many insurers are willing to cover customers with a pre-existing condition, so long as they are informed before you purchase a policy. If the insurer agrees to cover the pre-existing condition, they may charge you an additional premium but you should be covered if you need to return home early due to the condition. You can learn more about this by checking out our guide. The best way to find out if you and your partner will be covered is to get in touch with Insure&Go directly by calling 1300 401 177. I hope this helps!
We are in Egypt and there is a military evacuation, do you cover for earlier flight evacuation, or a outbreak of unrest do you cover flight out.
Hi Melissa,
Sorry to hear about your situation, that sounds very stressful. We’re a review and comparison site so we can’t provide direct help, your best bet is to contact your insurer directly. Best of luck!
Does any travel insurance cover you when overseas and you have to return or cancel part of your cruise/ trip and return to Australia because of your parents death ( aged 92 ).
Hi James, I’m sorry to hear this. Unfortunately I don’t know of any that would cover you. Most travel insurance policies have an exclusion for deaths over a certain age, typically 85yrs old.
Hi
We are planning on travelling to Bali on 22/12/17. Are you covering any claims associated with the Mt Agung Volcano at the moment? If so, what sort of cover do you offer?
Hi Sue,
Thanks for your inquiry.
According to our review on how Mt Agung impacts your Bali travel insurance and what you can claim for, InsureandGo they can only provide cover for policies that will be issued between 7:30pm (AEST) on 6th June 2018, and 8:00pm (AEST) on 8th June 2018. You may refer to the table from the first link above to know what date and time insurers stopped providing cover for Mount Agung as well as other volcano-related issues including the Bali ash cloud.
While you may not be covered for events related to Mt Agung, travel insurance can still cover you for unexpected medical expenses, prepaid expenses and lost luggage.
Best regards,
Rench
