The Ignite Mastercard is the Westpac replacement for the Virgin credit card. In February of 2009 the Ignite card first came out, replacing the Virgin card after their contract with Westpac expired. Although the Virgin contract went away Westpac was able to maintain the customer profiles and continue offering a great credit card. Westpac has chosen to maintain the no frills status of the Virgin card by offering low interest rates and fees to their customers. Instead of offering introductory deals and other offers they give you what you need from a card which is low rates all of the time and benefits that you can really used, no matter what your spending profile.

Westpac Ignite Mastercard Benefits

  • No annual fee. This is a real deal when it comes to free annual fees, because it lasts for life. No annual fees, forever.
  • Low purchase interest rate per annum on purchases.
  • Comparatively low interest rate on cash advances.
  • Up to 55 interest free days on purchases. If you pay your bill each month you can basically use this card completely free of charge.

Valuable Instant Offers Program

Instead of earning points through spending this card offers you savings instantly when you spend with Ignite Mastercard partners.

  • Premium Wines Direct gives you a 15% discount on any purchases with them.
  • RedBalloon, Australia's most reliable supplier of experiences like hot air balloon rides and V* race card driving offers a $30 discount on any gifts over $129.
  • Rebel Sport provides a 5% discount on merchandise from their selection of clothing, footwear, and sport and leisure equipment.

The Ignite Mastercard offers you the chance to benefit from no annual fees coupled with great interest rates. Most of the time credit card owners are forced to sacrifice a low interest rate for a high annual fee, but with Ignite that is not the case. In addition, you can even get some great discounts just by using your Ignite card, perks that come for free just for owning this great card. There is just no need to pay high annual fees and high interest rates when you can take advantage of the Ignite Mastercard and get great rates and valuable perks for free.

      Hi Feros,

      Thanks for your question.

Existing cardholders for Westpac Ignite MasterCard can obtain a card statement by going through the Westpac Online Banking.
This enables you to view the copies of your online statements any time. You’ll just need to sign in, click on your card and choose “View & download statements”.

      I hope this helps.

      Cheers,
      Ysa

      Hi Loretta,

      Thanks for your question.

Yes, you should be able to use your Westpac Ignite MasterCard when you travel to New York.

It would also be suggested to notify Westpac regarding your travel dates and destination. You can do this by getting in touch with the Ignite Card team on 1800 080 00 or thru online, if you are registered to Online Banking.

      I hope this helps.

      Cheers,
      Ysa

I have been offered a Westpac Platinum Visa card to replace my Westpac Ignite MasterCard. What would I be losing by changing? I’m a bit suspicious of the offer.

      Hi,

      Thanks for your question.
Please note that you’ve come through finder.com.au, an online comparison service and not Westpac.

There may be changes on the interest rate or fees applied from your Ignite MasterCard. You may want to contact directly a Westpac customer service representative, they might be able to inform you more details for the card replacement offer.

To check the existing Westpac platinum credit cards, kindly refer to our comparison page.
      I hope this helps.

      Cheers,
      Debbie

      Hi Alfred,

      Thank you for your question.

Just to confirm, you have come through to finder.com.au, not Westpac.

You can log in to your IGNITE MasterCard online account, but it appears that the website is down on their end. If you’re still having trouble accessing the site, it may be best to contact Westpac’s Customer service team to notify them of this issue.

I have emailed you the Customer Service number so you can contact Westpac directly.

I hope this has answered your question.

      Thanks,

      Sally

Hi good morning. If I will buy my airfare using my credit card, is there no need for me to get travel insurance?

    • Staff
      JonathanMarch 9, 2015Staff

Hi Luz, thanks for your inquiry!

Depending on your travel insurance needs, credit card complimentary insurance could be sufficient. It would be best to check the terms and conditions for the inclusions and to then evaluate whether it is ideal for your needs. For a list of credit cards which include complimentary travel insurance please see this page.

      Cheers,

      Jonathan
