Types of credit cards from Woolworths

Woolworths offers two different reward credit cards. The Woolworths Qantas Platinum Credit Card earns Qantas Points for your spending, while the Woolworths Everyday Platinum Credit Card earns points that are automatically converted to Woolworths Shopping Cards. Depending on when you apply, these cards could also include introductory balance transfer offers or purchase rate offers, as well as a range of ongoing complimentary benefits. Here, you can find details of Woolworths credit cards based on the type of option you're looking for.

  • Balance transfer credit cards

Woolworths credit cards may come with 0% balance transfer offers for a promotional period, allowing you to repay your debts without the cost of interest. At the end of the introductory period, this 0% interest rate reverts to the standard variable interest rate for cash advances. Compare the offers in the table below and see how much money you can save on interest. Read our step-by-step guide to completing a balance transfer with Woolworths here.

  • Rewards credit cards

The Woolworths Everyday Platinum Credit Card is a platinum card that earns reward points for cashback at the supermarket. With this card, you'll collect between 1 and 3 points for every $1 you spend on eligible purchases. Your points will automatically be converted to cashback in the form of a Woolworths Shopping Card every four months, with a minimum of 4,000 points equal to a $20 Shopping Card.

The Woolworths Everyday Platinum also includes complimentary purchase security insurance and exclusive discounts at Woolworths Group retailers. You can also enjoy a bonus $100 Woolworths eGift Card when your new application is approved by 30 September 2017 and you make an eligible purchase on the card by 31 October 2017.

Frequently asked questions

If you want to know more about Woolworths credit cards, you can check out answers to these frequently asked questions. If you still can’t find an answer to your question, get in touch with us by leaving a comment below.

Yes. If you get the Woolworths Qantas Platinum credit card, you'll be able to earn Qantas Points for all your eligible spending, anywhere Visa is accepted.

If you can't remember your credit card PIN, call the Woolworths customer contact centre on 1300 10 1234. Note that you may be required to provide identification information to verify your account and card.

Once you have completed your credit card application, Woolworths will provide you with a reference number and process your application within the next 10 business days. Woolworths may contact you if they require any further information regarding your application.

If you applied for a Woolworths credit card but didn’t hear anything about your application, call the Customer Service team on 1300 10 1234 and follow the prompts to speak to a representative. You may also want to check the junk folder in your email as it can sometimes get tagged as spam.

You'll be informed in writing if your credit card application is declined. Credit card issuers are unable to tell you why an application has been rejected, however, if it’s because of your credit file, you'll be notified of this and directed to further information.

You can elect to transfer your non-Woolworths credit card or store card debt to a Woolworths credit card when you apply for the account online.

Please remember the following before requesting a balance transfer with Woolworths:

  • Balance transfers are accepted from other credit cards or store cards only
  • You can transfer from up to two other credit cards or store cards
  • The minimum amount you can transfer is $500 and the maximum amount is up to $500 under your credit limit. So, if you had a credit limit of $5,000, you could transfer up to $4,500.

If you're approved for the account, the balance transfer will be automatically processed by Woolworths once you receive and activate the card.

For existing customers:

  • Existing Woolworths account holders that want to transfer a balance from another credit card or store card will need to complete and send in a balance transfer request form. You can download this from the Woolworths website.
  • If your balance transfer to a Woolworths credit card is accepted, it can take up to 14 business days before the funds clear and you can see the balance in your account.

Your statement is issued within five weeks of the first transaction you make on your Woolworths credit card. If you have requested a balance transfer, it counts as a transaction and is processed as soon as you activate your Woolworths credit card.

If you pay your total outstanding balance in full by the due date each month, you'll receive up to 55 interest-free days.

You can make a repayment to your Woolworths credit card in the following ways.

  • BPAY. If you're paying your Woolworths credit card from another institution's online banking facility, log in to your Internet banking and select BPAY from the payments and transfers menu. You will need to enter the BPAY Biller Code 017574 and your Customer Reference Number, which is your account number. BPAY payments can take up to two business days to process.
  • Direct debit. You can set up a direct debit payment from your everyday transaction or savings account with another bank. You can set up a direct debit to pay just the minimum repayment due on your account, a fixed amount or the entire balance of your credit card.
  • In person. You can also pay your credit card at a Woolworths supermarket with cash or a debit card. All you need to do is show your Woolworths credit card to a representative.
  • By mail. Send a cheque to DEFT Payment Systems, GPO 4690 Sydney NSW 2001. Cheques must be made payable to Card Services and include your 16 digit credit card number. Allow up to five business days for the cheque to be processed. You may also have to account for the time it takes for the cheque to be delivered in the post.

Yes. You can use your card to withdraw cash at any ATM worldwide that carries the Mastercard or PLUS logos. Cash withdrawals from ATMs are charged interest at the cash advance interest rate and will be charged from the withdrawal date.

Two weeks before your old card is about to expire a new card will be sent out to you in the mail. If, for whatever reason, you don’t get your card, you need to call Woolworths Customer Service on 1300 10 1234.

Your credit limit is how much money Woolworths will allow you to spend on your card. They use a calculation of your income, assets, debts and liabilities to find out how much you could afford to repay.

You can request a specific credit limit or you can request the maximum amount of credit you can get. If you want more credit, request a credit limit increase. Each request for more credit is judged by the same criteria, so don't expect to be granted more credit if you've taken the maximum amount and your circumstances have not changed.

There's the option of applying for an additional cardholder during the online application for a Woolworths credit card. This can also be done after the application by downloading an additional cardholder application from the Woolworths website.

Each Woolworths credit card may allow you to get a different number of additional cardholders. You can find out more on our review pages. Supplementary cardholders must be over the age of 16 and an Australian resident. If you have a family member who is over the age of 18, they can also apply for a Woolworths credit card in their own name, providing they meet the eligibility requirements.

Report a lost or stolen card immediately to Customer Service on 1300 10 1234. It's best to contact the customer service team as soon as possible to avoid being liable for any charges made on the card and to resolve the issue promptly.

If you're overseas call +612 8276 0144. Note that a fee may be charged to get your credit card sent out to you.

Woolworths credit cards are underwritten by Macquarie Bank. If you're considering to transfer a balance to a Woolworths credit card from an existing Macquarie Bank credit card, read this guide and find out if balance transfers are allowed between the two brands.

The Woolworths Everyday Platinum and Qantas Platinum are products that operate as credit facilities. You can use these cards to finance your day-to-day purchases.

The Woolworths Rewards Card is a Woolworths product that you use to hold your fuel saving discounts and earn Woolworths Rewards Points when you spend at Woolworths Group stores.

A prepaid Mastercard lets you spend your own money to shop online or in-store. They can be used everywhere Mastercard is accepted.

They're a budgeting tool that can also be used by people who have bad credit and want a hassle-free way to make electronic payments.

What is considered an eligible purchase

    • Staff
      AnndyJune 24, 2016Staff

      Hi Donna,

      Thanks for your question.

Eligible purchases are purchases for goods and services but excluding returns and other credits. Eligible purchases do not include balance transfers, cash advances, cash substitutes and transactions for gambling purposes.

      Cheers,

I have recently upgraded from Gold to Black and was told that I could continue using the old card until it expires. This seems to defeat the object of upgrading as I will only use the Black card in future. Will I be paying two monthly subscriptions until the old card expires even though I am not using it? Also, what happens to my existing accumulated reward points? Thank you.

    • Staff
      JonathanMay 13, 2016Staff

Hi John, thanks for your inquiry.

With credit card upgrades generally the old card is no longer effective when the new card arrives. There should not be any duplication resulting in paying two monthly subscriptions as both cards are under the one credit card account. Existing accumulated reward points will still remain on your account. For more information regarding your upgrade it would be best to contact Woolworths directly on 1300 10 1234.

      I hope this helps.

      Cheers,

      Jonathan

      SallyFebruary 26, 2016Staff

      Hi Debra,

      Thanks for your question.

Just to confirm, you have come through to finder.com.au not Woolworths. If you began your application, there should’ve been an option to save it so you could continue working on it later if you needed to. If not, you might need either contact Woolworths directly to confirm whether you can continue your application or whether you need to start again.

      Cheers,

If I have an average credit rating.. Should I even bother to apply?

    • Staff
      SallyAugust 31, 2015Staff

      Hi Brian,

      Thanks for your inquiry.

As long as you meet the application requirements for a credit card you will be eligible to apply. You may like to refer to the following link for a guide on how to get your credit card application approved.

However, before you apply for another credit card, you may wish to speak with some credit card issuers directly to discuss your options and chances for acceptance, as several rejected credit card applications will have a negative impact on your credit rate and reduce your chances of approval even further.

I hope this has helped answer your questions.

      Thanks,

      Sally
