The Greater Bank is one of the nation’s largest building societies. A building society is like a bank with a difference — banks are owned by their shareholders, but building societies are owned by its members. There are more than a quarter of a million of Australians who hold a home loan, bank account or credit card — to name a few of their products — with Greater, and more and more Australians are making the switch to a credit union or building society every day.

Although Greater have a limited number of credit cards compared to some mainstream lenders — Greater Bank only offers one Visa credit card to members — the Greater Visa Credit Card is a competitive low rate product that can be used for cash advances or purchases without it costing a fortune. Compare and apply for Greater Bank credit cards here and find out about some of the benefits of Greater banking.

Frequently asked questions

We’ve covered the frequently asked questions about Greater Bank credit cards below. Use the form to ask us a question if you can’t find an answer to your question below.

Once you submit your application for a credit card with the Greater Bank you may need to verify your identity and your income before your application can be processed — especially if you’re a new customer.

  • Proof of income. Two most recent payslips or tax returns.
  • Proof of identity. Mail certified copies of your identification to the Credit Cards Department.
  • Balance transfers. Include a copy of your credit card statement with the above-mentioned copies of documents if you wish to carry out a balance transfer to a Greater Bank credit card.

You should get your card in seven to 14 business days after you’ve been approved for the card and you’ve submitted any supporting documents to Greater Bank.

You’ll need to activate your Greater credit card before you can start spending on it. Activation is simple and can be done online by logging on to Internet Banking. You can also activate your credit card by visiting a Greater Bank branch or by calling Greater directly.

Have a look at your credit card statement for information and steps about how to make a payment to your Greater Bank credit card. Some of the ways you can pay your credit card include:

  • BPAY Payment. To make a BPAY payment, log on to your non-Greater online banking network and select make a BPAY payment. Enter the Greater Bank Biller Code and your customer reference number — this is your credit card number.
  • Electronic Funds Transfer. Transfer money to your Greater Bank credit card from another institution’s online banking system. The Greater Bank BSB is 637 000 and your account number is your credit card number.
  • Branch. Visit a Greater Bank bank branch and pay your credit card by cash or EFTPOS.
  • Cheque. Have a look at your Greater Bank credit card statement for the Greater mailing address for credit card payments. You should be able to remove the bottom section of your card statement and attach a cheque to send to the building society.

Your credit card statement has some key information about how to use your Greater Bank credit card and how to make a repayment. On your statement you will be able to see:

  • How long it will take to pay your entire outstanding balance if you just make the minimum credit card repayment
  • The due date for your credit card repayment
  • The ways you can make repayments to Greater Bank credit cards
  • Whether you owe any money on the card and how much
  • The rates of interest and whether you have any promotional offers active
  • Points earning

You get a paper statement sent to your residential address by default but you can choose to get an electronic statement instead.

A lost or stolen credit card needs to be reported to the credit card issuing institution immediately.

You can add a number of additional cards to your account so you can give one to a relative or friend to use if need be. Each additional card issued is linked to the main account — the credit card statement and credit limit are shared — but each card has it’s own unique card name and the individual’s name is printed on the front.

Apply for an additional card either when you apply for the account online or after you apply by sending in an additional cardholder request form.

If you’re in need of a replacement Greater credit card, contact the Greater Bank directly.

Internet banking brings all the benefits of a bricks and mortar bank branch to your home – and with none of the lines or queues!

You need to register your Greater credit card for online banking before you can log on. You can do this on the Greater Bank website by following the prompts, you can visit your closest Greater Bank branch or you can give one of their customer service representatives a call.

It’s very difficult to properly predict what your credit limit will be before you’ve applied for credit. The application will ask you whether you want to apply for the maximum credit limit available to you or whether you want to apply for a specific credit limit. If you’ve applied for a credit card before and know roughly how your ratio of debt to assets translates to available credit, you can use this figure as a guide for working out your new credit limit.

You can increase or decrease your Greater Bank credit card in one of two ways.

  • Use internet banking. Follow the prompts to apply for a credit limit increase.
  • Download an application form and send it to the Greater Bank head office.

You can decrease your credit limit at any time by calling the Greater Bank and speaking to credit card representative.
