BestBuy offers the following car insurance options to Australian drivers:

  • Comprehensive. BestBuy Comprehensive Car Insurance is designed to offer high-level protection and peace of mind for drivers. It includes cover for loss or damage caused by a collision, storm, attempted theft or malicious act, and also provides $20 million of legal liability cover when your vehicle causes damage to someone else’s property. Loss or damage to the car if it is stolen or catches fire is covered as well, as is a hire car following theft.
  • Third Party Property. This policy offers liability protection for when your car causes damage to other people’s property, including cover for your legal costs. It also provides cover (up to $3,000 or the market value of your car) when your car is damaged in a no-fault accident with an uninsured driver.
  • Third Party Fire and Theft. Third Party Fire and Theft Car Insurance from BestBuy provides all the same cover as the Third Party Property policy above. However, it also adds cover for loss or damage to your car when it catches fire or is stolen. This includes hire car cover following the theft of your vehicle, but does not include cover for damage caused by attempted theft or items being stolen from your vehicle.

What isn't covered by BestBuy?

Your BestBuy Car Insurance claim will not be paid if the loss, damage or liability arises due to:

  • The car being driven by any household member not listed on your certificate of insurance or who is specifically excluded from cover
  • The car being driven by anyone who is excluded from cover by their age
  • The car being driven by anyone without your consent, unless you take all necessary steps to prosecute that person (for example, notifying the police)
  • The car being driven by someone who did not hold a valid licence, or who was under the influence of alcohol or drugs
  • The car was being used to carry passengers or other people’s goods for payment, or to provide paid driving tuition
  • The car was being used in connection with the motor trade, other than commercial servicing or repairing
  • The car was being used for racing, tests or trials
  • The car was being used for any unlawful purpose or was being driven in an unsafe or unroadworthy condition
  • The car being shown for sale to someone and you did not accompanying them on a test drive when it was stolen

BestBuy Car Insurance will also not cover:

  • Any improvements made before the loss or damage occurred
  • Loss in value of the car after repairs
  • Consequential loss
  • Wear and tear, corrosion, abuse or rust
  • Tyre damage that results from punctures, cuts or bursts
  • Mechanical, structural or electrical breakdown or failure
  • Incidents that occur outside Australia
  • Loss, damage or liability deliberately caused by any insured person (or someone acting on their behalf)
  • Loss, damage or liability arising out of the use of the incorrect type of fuel

How much does BestBuy Car Insurance cost?

There are a number of factors that influence the cost of your BestBuy Car Insurance policy, including:

  • Your age. Younger drivers are more likely to be involved in an accident than their older counterparts and therefore cost more to insure.
  • The type of car. A high-powered, expensive luxury car will cost more to insure than a small, low-powered daily drive.
  • Where the car is kept. A car kept in a secure garage is less likely to be stolen or suffer damage than one left parked on the street overnight. Where you live can also be a contributing factor to premiums, such as if you live in a high-crime area or somewhere prone to damaging hailstorms.
  • How your car is used. Drivers who travel a large number of kilometres each year will need to pay more for cover than drivers who do not travel a great distance. The type of driving you do will also be taken into account.
  • How secure your car is. A car with an alarm, immobiliser or other anti-theft devices will have cheaper premiums than a vehicle without those security measures.
  • Your previous claims history. The insurer will examine your previous claims history when assessing the likelihood of you making a future claim.
  • Your driving history. The incidents, offences and infringements on the driving record of you and other insured drivers will also be taken into account.

BestBuy Car Insurance excess

When you make a BestBuy Car Insurance claim you will need to pay an excess. This is the amount you are required to contribute towards the total cost of the claim and it is calculated based on the basic excess and any additional excesses that may apply. For example, you may need to pay an additional excess if your car was being driven by someone under a specific age when the incident occurred.

The basic excess and any additional excesses will be shown on your insurance certificate. However, if you are involved in a no-fault accident with another vehicle and your claim amount exceeds the basic excess, no excess is payable.
