    Finder Score for car insurance

We analyse over 30 car insurance products across insurance providers, and rate each one for price and features. We collect up to 36 quotes per product, for male and female drivers in New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania and Western Australia. Quotes are collected for 20 year olds, 30 year olds and 60 year olds, assuming an excess of $850 for a 2020 Toyota Corolla 4 door sedan model, with an average 15,000 kms driven each year. While we are not allowed to display actual quotes, our Finder Score aims to serve as an indicative guide to how cost and feature competitive a product might be for you.

Our feature score assesses each product for more than 15 features across loss and damage coverage, repairs and assistance coverage, personal items coverage and policy coverage. Features we assess include but are not limited to legal liability, essential repairs, new car replacement, car hire events, roadside assistance, agreed or market value, windscreen damage and natural disaster coverage.

"Prior to signing up with AAMI, my comprehensive car insurance exceeded $1,000 annually. After a brief market comparison, I noticed AAMI offered the most competitive rate. The quote and policy acquisition process was simple and easy to navigate, and resulted in cost savings of almost $400 per year! I've been with AAMI for nearly five years now, and have only made one claim. It's important to note that the policy limits your choice of repair shops. This is a factor to consider when evaluating your insurance needs. However, AAMI offers a streamlined claims process, allowing you to file online or by phone. Their customer service team are really responsive and the claims experience was really smooth."

    Why choose AAMI car insurance?

AAMI provides a range of standard features and optional covers for policyholders:

    • New car replacement. If your car is less than two years old and is a total loss, it will be replaced with a new vehicle of the same make and model.
    • Lifetime repair guarantee. All repairs authorised by AAMI are guaranteed for as long as you remain the owner of the vehicle.
    • Hire car after no-fault accident. Comprehensive policies include a hire car if your vehicle is damaged in an accident where you were not at fault and can provide the other driver's details.
    • Uninsured motorist cover. Third Party Property Damage policies provide up to $5,000 for repairs if your vehicle is damaged by an uninsured driver in a no-fault incident.
    • Hire car for unlimited days (optional add-on). For covered incidents, AAMI will arrange and pay for a hire car of a similar make and model until your vehicle is repaired or your claim is settled.
    • Roadside assist (optional add-on). Provides 24/7 Australia-wide support for breakdowns, including emergency fuel delivery, jump-starts, flat tyre changes, and towing.
    • Safe driver rewards. Eligible drivers can earn a renewal credit of up to 15% and discounts on roadside assistance for maintaining a claim-free record.
    • Flexible payment options. Premiums can be paid in monthly or annual instalments to help manage household budgeting.

How much does AAMI car insurance cost?

What's not covered with an AAMI Car Insurance policy?

There's a fair bit covered with an AAMI policy, but there's some things that are missing including:

    • Roadside assistance: Some insurers offer this as a free inclusion on policies, but with AAMI you'll have to pay a little bit extra.
    • Choice of repairer: Also a feature included with some other insurers, AAMI won't let you choose you repairer. If you have a family friend mechanic, you probably won't be able to nominate them to fix your car.

How to make an online claim

Claims can be lodged through the AAMI website or via the AAMI mobile app using the following steps:

    1. Log in to your account. Sign in to My AAMI or the mobile app using your email address and password.
    2. Provide incident details. Specify what happened and the date the incident occurred.
    3. Details of others involved. Input the name, contact details, and vehicle registration of any other drivers or witnesses involved.
    4. Upload supporting documents. Attach photos of the damage and any relevant police report numbers to assist the assessment.
    5. Pay the excess. Complete the payment for the applicable excess as outlined in your policy schedule.
    6. Book repairs. Choose a repairer from the AAMI network and select a time for the vehicle assessment.
    7. Track the progress. Use the online portal or app to receive updates on the status of the repair or settlement.

      Hi Diana,

If you’ve paid for a year’s worth of insurance, then you can look into canceling your policy with the insurer and get a refund. The insurer should just charge you for the month(s) you were with them, and then refund the rest.

As for the unused portion of your registration including CTP, depending on your state, the insurer will take off the remaining value of your unused registration and CTP insurance from your payout. You can recover your unutilized CTP from your CTP insurer and obtain a refund for your unused registration from your state’s Roads or Transport Authority.

Feel free to visit Finder’s guide for cars written off for more details.

      I hope this helps.

      Kind regards,
      James

Do your company charge a admistration fee?

        NikkiSeptember 6, 2019

        Hi Tjohn,

Thanks for getting in touch! Fees depend on the type of policy you have or will have with AAMI. There are no additional admin fees when you apply for car insurance. The premium that you receive is the total price. However, if you choose to pay by monthly installments it does cost more. It is approx 12-15 % more to pay monthly. If you’d like to get a quote with AAMI, you may visit their website and get an online quote. You can also reach out tot her chat service team for real-time assistance on your application.

Hope this helps and feel free to reach out to us again for further assistance.

        Best,
        Nikki

        Hi Pam,

        Thank you for your question.

You have contacted finder.com.au, a comparison and information service and not actually an AAMI Car Insurance.

You will need to contact AAMI Car Insurance about this matter.

        Cheers,
        Zubair

        Hi Niall,

Thanks for getting in touch. If you no longer have your car (in this case if it was written off) you would be able to cancel your policy.

        Cheers,
        Richard

      HI,
If I get a 12 month cover for $700 and after one or two month, I want to cancel my insurance. How much cancellation fee would be charged?

        Default GravatarFinder
        JasonDecember 16, 2016Finder

        Hi Ozman,

        Thank you for your enquiry.

According to the PDS of AAMI Comprehensive Car Insurance, The amount of the cancellation fee is $30 (plus (if applicable) FSL plus GST plus stamp duty) for each car insured on the policy.

The cancellation fee is deducted from any refund that AAMI will send you. If the refund is less than the fee, a refund will not be issued and AAMI will not charge you an additional amount to cover the difference.

You may also try to get quotes from other car insurance providers featured on our website.

        Kind regards,
        Jason
