RACV FAQ

Below are a few frequently asked questions about RACV travel insurance policies.

  • Question. Why are policies more expensive for older travellers?
    • Answer. Age is an important variable when considering the premium for your travel insurance policy. The older you are, the more risk you represent to the insurer.
  • Question. Do I get a discount on travel insurance?
    • Answer. Depending on the membership level, RACV members are entitled to discounts on travel insurance.
  • Question. I have a pre-existing medical condition. Can I still buy cover?
    • Answer. There are three categories of pre-existing medical conditions: those automatically covered, those not automatically covered and those that have to be assessed. Check the PDS to see whether your condition or illness is covered.
  • Question. I’ve lost my luggage. Can I claim?
    • Answer. Yes, but your claim may be refused if you don’t take all reasonable precautions to protect your luggage. This means not leaving it unsupervised and taking all necessary steps to avoid losing or damaging it.
  • Question. Can I extend my travel insurance?
    • Answer. You can extend your travel insurance, but you’ll have to buy a new policy before your policy expires.
  • Question. Who underwrites RACV?
    • Answer. RACV policies are underwritten by Great Lakes Reinsurance.
  • Question. Can I cancel my RACV policy if I’m not happy with it?
    • Answer. You have 15 days from the date of issue to cancel your policy and receive a full refund. However, you will not be eligible for this refund if you’ve already left on your trip or file to claim from your policy.
