How to apply

You can apply online in about 10 minutes and will receive a response in 60 seconds. For this two-card bundle, you submit only one application to Westpac and then your information is passed on to American Express. Before you apply, make sure you meet the eligibility requirements and have the necessary documents on hand:

If you're an existing Westpac Altitude Platinum or Black card customer, you can apply for the American Express card if you've been invited to via Online Banking, email or post. If you were invited, you should've received a promotional code which you can use to apply. If you don't have the card, you can only apply for the American Express when you also apply for the Mastercard.

Eligibility criteria

  • New customer. To be eligible for the bonus points offer, you cannot hold or have held a Westpac rewards card in the previous 12 months.
  • Residency. This card is available to permanent Australian residents.

Card benefits

  • Bonus Velocity Points. With the Mastercard, you'll earn a bonus 90,000 Velocity Points when you spend $4,000 on eligible purchases in the first 90 days from account opening. You will get another 30,000 Velocity Points when you make your first eligible purchase in the second year.
  • Uncapped points. The American Express card offers 2 Velocity Points per $1 on eligible purchases made in a foreign currency, 1.25 Velocity Points per $1 on eligible spending in Australia and 0.5 points per $1 on eligible spending with government bodies in Australia. The Mastercard offers 0.75 Velocity Points per $1 spent on eligible purchases. Both cards have uncapped earn rates.

Rates & fees

  • Annual fees. This bundle comes at the cost of a $499 total annual fee. $199 for the American Express card and a $250 annual fee for the Mastercard. There is also a $50 annual fee for choosing Altitude Velocity which is applied to the Mastercard account.
  • Purchase rate. The Mastercard charges a variable purchase interest rate of 20.49% p.a. and the American Express purchase rate is 20.24% p.a.
