Get convenient access to your Service One Overdraft with a Visa Card
The creation of Service One Members Banking was a result of the merger of three credit unions — Snowy Mountains Credit Union, Credit Union of Canberra and Hospitals Credit Union. This merger took place in 2001, and while the three entities continued operating under their respective names, they united in 2006 to become known as Service One Members Banking. With branches spread across New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory, this credit union offers its members an array of financial services and products like loans, savings and investment accounts, debit and credit cards and banking packages.
Comparison of Service One Members Banking Credit Cards
Types of cards that Service One offers
Service One gives its members an innovative credit solution – a Visa card that's tied to their Overdraft facility. Take advantage of a Visa card and have access to your transaction account and your overdraft facility.
Cards with overdrafts
If you need access to credit but don't want to take out a credit card, you can consider a Visa card that gives you access to your overdraft facility. Overdrafts can come with generally lower minimum amounts and you only pay interest on the amount you use. Have as little as $1,000 tied to your Day to Day account and have access to it anywhere Visa is accepted.
Benefits of banking with Service One
Banking with a credit union like Service One comes with benefits like personalised service, competitive interest rates and reduced fees and charges, and getting a Visa through this credit union comes with various advantages, too.
If you use your card to make purchases online, you can take advantage of the Verified by Visa service that protects your card details. Your card will also come with Visa's payWave functionality, so any purchases you make in-store for less than $100 are only a quick tap away with no need to enter your PIN.
A competitive overdraft
Borrow a minimum of $1,000 and have access to your continuing line of credit. The interest is calculated daily but you'll only pay interest on the amount you use, not on the amount of credit you have. Depending on your loan balance, discounts on everyday banking could be available.
If you hold a Service One home loan you can access your Visa card at the Standard Variable Home Loan rate, letting you save even more on interest.
How to apply for a Service One Members Banking credit card
You can get a hard copy application by visiting any Service One branch, and you can also apply online. To complete an online application simply click on the ‘Go to Site’ button corresponding to the credit card of your choice. Before you apply, make sure you meet the following eligibility criteria:
- You’re at least 18 years old
- You’re a permanent Australian resident
- You have good credit history
- Personal. Start by providing your name, date of birth, and proof of your identity.
- Work. This section requires your last two pay slips and a letter from your employer detailing your start date and salary details.
- Financial. Provide information about your home and other loans, credit cards and store cards, and if you're self-employed you'll need financial statements and tax assessments for the last two years.
What happens next
A Card Services representative might contact you for additional information after reviewing your application. An income verification call goes to your employer’s payroll department — you can help speed the process by letting your payroll department know of the call in advance. If you’re not an existing Service One member you’ll have to apply for membership before you receive your card. In this case, you’ll also have to complete a legally mandated identity verification process.
