Hi Moira,
To activate your travel insurance, you simply need to spend a minimum of $500 of your prepaid travel costs before leaving Australia. This doesn’t need to be on flights; it could be accomodation, tours, car hire, transfers etc. It can also be accumulated, eg $300 on hotels and $200 on car hire. You may want to purchase refundable accomodation so you can activate your insurance, but amend/cancel the accomodation it if your flight plans change?
Hope this helps!

Yes, this is a personal card not a credit card. You can withdraw money from this card, but you’ll be charged interest of 19.99% immediately, which is a very high interest rate. If you need access to cash, a personal loan might be more affordable.
Hope this helps!

Hi Felipe, No you don’t need to have an existing account. If you’re a new customer you can still apply, but you may be required to visit a branch to verify your identity.

Hi – my wife and I are both retired. Our income is from military pensions in my name, both receive aged pension as well as an allocated pension. We do our own tax returns. We both have a credit card with the balances paid in full every month via direct debit. We both have good credit ratings.
I have recently transferred from a credit card provider to a fee free credit card.
My wife would now like to do the same and cancel her existing card. The problem we have experienced is that the majority of income is in my name so it is proving very difficult to find a new credit card for my wife.
Is Bendigo Bank a little more lenient in the strict criteria for applying?
Many thanks for any assistance.
Peter and Carolyn

Hi Peter and Carolyn,
Please be aware that I can only give general advice and factual information in my reply. Bendigo Bank allows people to apply if they receive regular income from any of the following sources: PAYG (Permanent, non-permanent and casual employment), managed superannuation, self-managed superannuation, self-employment. It would typically need to be in the name of the person applying. But you could call Bendigo Bank directly on 1300 236 344 to discuss specific details.
Finder also has a guide to credit cards for retired applicants that has further insights and details on applying. I hope this helps.

Hi Derek,
If you’re unsure about eligibility for a particular card I suggest contacting the card company and asking them more specific questions about its eligibility requirements.

Hello, I’m interested in applying for the above credit card with Bendigo Bank .
One of the conditions to receive overseas travel insurance is to pay for return airline tickets with the credit card. I’m a retired airline employee with the Qantas Group. In most cases I’m unable to buy a return ticket, as my travel is dependent on loadings for my flight on a particular day of travel I choose. This can change if loadings are heavy.
Therefore is it possible to apply for this credit card and receive the benefits.
Many thanks.
