Expert review

The Bank of Melbourne Amplify Platinum boasts a $400 e-gift card and a short-term balance transfer offer. While this is relatively competitive, you'll need to spend $3,000 in the first 90 days and the card can only be redeemed with Sunglass Hut, Sephora or Uber.

This card earns 1 Amplify Point per $1 spent and the Amplify Rewards program gives you plenty of ways to redeem your points. For example, you could exchange 100,000 Amplify Points for 50,000 Velocity Points, Malaysia Enrich points or Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer Miles. It’s also almost enough points to redeem a $500 David Jones eGift Card (110,000 points).

How to apply

You can apply for the Bank of Melbourne Amplify Platinum card online in 10 minutes and receive a response instantly. Just make sure you've met the eligibility criteria and have the necessary information to complete the application.

Eligibility criteria

  • New cardholder. To be eligible for the gift card promotion, you must apply for a new card and cannot hold or have held an Amplify Platinum or Amplify Signature issued by St.George, Bank of Melbourne or BankSA in the previous 12 months.
  • Age. You must be at least 18 years of age to apply.

Card benefits

  • $400 e-gift card. When you apply and are approved by 29 April 2020, you will be eligible to receive a $400 e-gift card for your choice of either Sunglass Hut, Sephora and Uber. To qualify, you will need to spend at least $3,000 on eligible purchases within the first 90 days. Eligible purchases include most everyday spend, but exclude things like balance transfers and cash advances.
  • Rewards points. Enjoy uncapped points potential and earn 1 Amplify Point per $1 spent on eligible transactions. Amplify Points can be auto-redeemed for Velocity Points at a rate of 2:1.

  • Annual fee. Outside of any promotions, this card charges an annual fee of $99 p.a.
  • Purchase rate. This card charges a 19.74% p.a. variable interest rate on purchases.

      Hi Shak,

      Thanks for getting in touch.

Yes, it is possible to purchase a car using a credit card with sufficient balance. However, to earn the 50k bonus points will depend on how your car purchase is processed. One thing you can do is ask the car store what credit cards they accept and how they process credit card transactions. Please note that for BOM Amplify Platinum, eligible purchases do not include BPAY or BPAY equivalent transactions, fees, cash, cash equivalent transactions, refunds and balance transfers debited from the card account. To get more information, you can call the bank or read the terms and conditions of the card.

      Hope this helps!

    Hi Ranko,

    Thanks for getting in touch!

Here’s a breakdown of your questions.

#1 How much is the balance transfer interest rate?

    – This card is not a Balance Transfer Credit Card

#2 How many Qantas points do I get? Is there any conditions that preclude me from getting these points?

    – Amplify Qantas. Earn 1 Qantas Points per $1 spent on eligible transactions, uncapped.
    – LIMITED OFFER: Apply for a Bank of Melbourne Amplify Platinum Credit Card by 26 September 2018 and spend $2,000 on eligible purchases within 90 days of card approval to receive 50,000 bonus Qantas points.

#3 I currently have a St George visa & Anz, How much would I have to spend to get these points?

    – This would be dependent on the specific card you have with these providers. You may also check this on their respective websites.

Hope the answers above was helpful.

      Thank you for contacting finder.
If you’re a current Bank of Melbourne Gold or Platinum cardholder, you, your spouse and any dependent children you may have are entitled to international travel insurance as long as all persons are 80 years of age or younger.

What’s the deal on Qantas FF points? 1 point for every $ spent? Does this include bills paid? The site is vague.

      Hi D Wills,

      Thanks for reaching out.

Regarding your query, while we can’t give you an exact answer as different terms apply for different rewards you redeem, the general rule would be when redeeming points, make sure you get at least $20 of value for every 1,000 Qantas Points you spend.

To help you further, we have a dedicated Qantas frequent flyer points guide to help you better understand the value of 1 Qantas Point.

      Hope this information helped.
