Interest rates and fees

What interest rate will I pay on the Go Mastercard?

Beyond the 0% interest payment plans, the Latitude GO Mastercard has three different interest rates that may be applied depending on the type of balance you have on the card. These are:

  • Purchase rate. This is the standard rate of interest applied to new purchases if you carry a balance from month to month. It’s currently 27.99% p.a. variable.
  • Cash advance rate. Withdrawing cash from an ATM, using the card for BPAY or making any other cash advance transactions will attract an interest rate of up to 29.99% p.a.
  • Expired promotional purchases. This interest rate is applied to 0% Interest Payment Plan purchases when the balance is not paid in full during the promotional period. This rate is currently 29.99% p.a.

What fees will I pay with the GO Mastercard?

The different fees you could be charged with a Latitude GO Mastercard are listed below, including details of when they apply:

  • Account servicing fee. This card charges a fee of $10.95 per month if your balance is over $10.
  • Paper statement fee. If you request a printed statement for your account, you will be charged $5 per statement.
  • Late payment fee. A fee of $45 is applied if you don’t make a payment by the due date.
  • Cash advance fee. Withdrawing money and other cash advance transactions will cost 3.5% or $4 of the transaction (whichever is greater).
  • Direct credit advance fee. If you transfer funds from your GO Mastercard to a nominated bank account, you will be charged the greater of $3 or 3% of the total transaction (up to a maximum of $30 per transaction).
  • International cash advance fee. A cash advance transaction made in a foreign currency is charged at $4.
  • International transaction fee. A 3% fee is applied for transactions made overseas or in a foreign currency.
  • Payment handling fee. Some account payments may attract a $3.95 fee in-person and a $1.95 fee online, for example, those made at Australia Post. You can avoid this fee by making your payments via mail, direct debit or via the Online Service Centre.

We are paying for a promotion of 12 months interest free with GE Money where there is a minimum monthly payment. We are now looking at purchasing items with 50 months interest free where we are required to pay by 50 equal monthly payments. I understand that monthly payments are automatically applied to the purchase that ends earliest (the first purchase in this case). If so, how can we fulfil our obligation to pay the second promotion in equal monthly payments if the payments are applied to the first purchase?

      Hi Kate,

      Thanks for your question.

Your minimum monthly payment will be calculated by GE Money and allocated as per your payment plans. You can’t select which interest-free promotion your repayments go towards, as you mentioned they are put towards the promotion that is due to expire first. However, your minimum monthly repayment will increase in order to see that both payments are being paid off adequately. If you have concerns about your personal account you might want to get in contact with GE Money directly to discuss your plans. You also have the option of making more than the minimum monthly repayment to ensure your outstanding balance is paid off before the promotional period ends.

      I hope this has helped.

      Thanks,

      Elizabeth

      Hi Kade,

      Thanks for your question.

You’ll need to request your funds to be transferred to a nominated bank account. Keep in mind this service carries a fee that will be the greater of 3% or $3.00 (maximum $30 per transaction).

      I hope this has helped.

      Thanks,

      Hi Annette,

      Thanks for your question.

You can pay off your interest-free purchases before the period is over without incurring any penalties.

      Hi Annette,

No worries. Yes, that’s correct. With this plan you’re required to make at least the minimum monthly repayment each month but you can also pay over that amount to ensure your debt is paid off before the due date.

      Thanks,

      Elizabeth

Yes, you should be able to do this by making payments how you usually would with this card.

If I have a purchase that is already interest free for 24 months and then I purchase something on a six month interest free how do I pay for the last one but still keep the previous one going

      ElizabethDecember 17, 2014Finder

      Hi Robyn,

      Thanks for your question.

GE Money will pay off the purchase that is due to end first to reduce any chance that you’ll have to pay interest.

      I hope this has helped.

      Thanks,

      Elizabeth
