What you need to know:
- ANZ credit cards with complimentary international travel insurance offer comprehensive cover for up to 3 or 6 consecutive months when you travel overseas.
- You'll get cover when you meet the requirements before travelling, noting cover is usually only available to those aged under 81.
- Your spouse and dependants travelling with you can also get cover, but there are some requirements and exclusions.

Hi I am about to turn 81 years of age will I still be covered by my Platinum card. If not will my wife who is 76 be covered even if I am not.
Hi Ron,
If you meet the other eligibility requirements for cover before you turn 81, you would be eligible for this cover. This means you would need to spend at least $250 of your prepaid travel expenses on your eligible ANZ Platinum card, have a return overseas travel ticket before you leave Australia and meet the residency requirements. Your wife would also be eligible if you met the eligibility requirements. If you have further questions, you can contact the insurance provider Allianz on 1300 135 271. I hope this helps.
Does paying for car hire on a trip count for the $250 you need to put on your platinum Visa card for Domestic travel insurance?
Hi Clare,
Car hire would generally be considered as a pre-paid travel cost. A sit’s not specifically mentioned in the ANZ Platinum and Black Complimentary Insurance policy booklet, it’s a good idea to call the insurance provider, Allianz, on 1300 135 271 to check your eligibility. I hope this helps.
HI
I’ve been diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease and have a trip to Bali on May 25th. Will I still have coverage under a frequent flyer Anz black card if I need to be flown back to Australia.
Many thanks.
Hi Rich,
Unfortunately, Motor Neurone Disease is not one of the pre-existing medical conditions that is listed as being covered without an assessment. But you can call Allianz on 1300 135 271 to organise an assessment of your condition, which may allow you to get written confirmation from Allianz that the pre-existing medical condition is covered. A $75 administration fee may apply as part of this process.
Alternatively, you can compare travel insurance for pre-existing conditions and learn more about different options on Finder. I hope that helps.
We have booked a half world cruise from Dover to Sydney with oneway flight to London. Could you please confirm if the ANZ complimentary travel insurance will cover the overseas cruise? if s is the cancellation policy.
Hi Carmen,
Cover is available for overseas cruises when you meet the requirements. There is cancellation cover as part of the policy, with specific limits for travel agent cancellation fees, rescheduling of your journey and withdrawal of services. These details are on page 18 of the policy document (pdf, effective from 27 April 2022).
Keep in mind that you need to use an eligible ANZ credit card for at least $250 worth of travel costs before the trip, live in Australia and have a return overseas travel ticket before you leave Australia. There policy doesn’t say the return travel needs to be via the same mode of transport, either. But if you have further questions, you can call the insurance provider Allianz on 1300 135 271. I hope that helps.
We have booked a cruise to the USA in April next year but can’t book return flights yet as its too early. Are we still covered please
Hi Lorraine,
According to the ANZ Platinum and Black Complimentary Insurance policy booklet, you need to have a return travel ticket before you leave Australia. So if you book your return flight before you leave and meet the other requirements, you should be eligible for cover.
For specific questions like this, it’s also a good idea to check with Allianz directly by calling 1300 135 271. And if you need a letter of eligibility for the cruise, you can get one online at http://www.checkyourcover.com.au/ANZ – after you have booked a return ticket. I hope this helps.
