Woolworths Everyday Money Reloadable Prepaid Mastercard review

The Woolworths Everyday Money Reloadable Prepaid Mastercard was a simple way to manage your expenses without relying on credit. As is hinted in the name, the reloadable Mastercard could be loaded with funds at the time of purchase and then reloaded as many times as you need to while the account remains open. Without a line of credit, this card could help avoid the temptation to spend and help encourage a better way to manage your savings. While the card isn't a credit card, you were required to select 'credit' at the EFTPOS machine and ATM to complete a purchase or withdrawal.

This card charges a 2.5% international transaction fee for purchases made in a foreign currency. It may be a suitable card for children, as you can only load a certain amount of funds in the card.

Benefits of the Woolworths Everyday Money Reloadable Prepaid Mastercard

  • Safe shopping on the internet. This card is protected by the Mastercard’s Zero Liability policy, so if you’re shopping online you’re not liable for any unauthorised transactions if you can prove that you didn’t make the transactions.
  • Safer than cash. A signature or PIN is required for this card. If you lose your card, you can request from Woolworths Money to cancel and replace the card.
  • Competitive fees. This card isn’t linked to a transaction account, so you can save on account maintenance fees.
  • Free withdrawals from ANZ ATMs. You can withdraw funds from an ANZ at no charge and there are no over the limit fees. Withdrawal limit is $2,000 per day.
  • Convenient. You can reload the card at Woolworths Supermarkets stores. You can also load funds using BPAY or Direct Debit.
  • Mastercard PayPass. Tap and Go with your purchases with Mastercard’s PayPass Technology.

Features of the Woolworths Everyday Money Reloadable Prepaid Mastercard

  • Loading fee. There was a $1 load fee each time you load the card with funds.
  • Two payment options. You had the option to either pay the card monthly or as you go. If you were using the card regularly, monthly was a better option than "pay as you go". If you loaded $500 or more onto your card per month, you didn't have to pay a $1 monthly service fee. If you did choose to pay monthly and didn't load this much, the $1 fee would apply.
  • Provided through ANZ. If you were shopping online - like using the card to purchase a flight - and were asked to provide the name of the issuing bank - you'd select ‘ANZ’ as the card was issued by ANZ in conjunction with Woolworths.
  • Maximum balance. There was a maximum balance of $10,000 allowed.
  • Reloading the card. You had three options when reloading the card with funds:
Cash or EFTPOS at Woolworths SupermarketsImmediate$2,000
Direct Credit - EFT from a bank account2 business days$2,000
BPAY4 business days$2,000

    Can one switch off this paywave/paygo/paypass stuff on these reloadable cards (coles), as it is inherently unsafe? Or maybe at least make the money that’s on the card unavailable for these services no one should really use? On the latter, some have even drilled a little hole through the chip, to disable the paypass stuff, will this effect the workings of the card or is the magnetic strip sufficient?

    Hi I’m buying something online and it’s asking me for ‘name on card’ using only digits, what is the name on the Woolworths card? Most people said it was just your own name but this website wants a name using only digits, I don’t know what it is.

    This reloadable prepaid mastercard opened up a whole new world of opportunities for this credit card-less man. I was naturally disappointed to find out a few months ago, second hand, that they were not going to issue these cards any more. I figured that well I’ll just continue to use it until it expires and then find an alternative and I have been doing just that.

    Strange thing is, I just got a letter last week, thanking me for renewing my reloadable prepaid card and it had a new card attached to it and this one expired in 2018.

    For one thing, I didn’t renew it, I mean I would have loved to but I didn’t believe you could because they weren’t issuing them anymore as of may last year.

    For another thing, when I logged into my reloadable prepaid account an hour ago, it said I wasn’t authorized to access it.

    Has their system confused itself? Sending me a new card that they no longer honour so it doesn’t work and now it’s locked me out of my account leaving me unable to use my original card with about 2 weeks left before it expires in February ’16?

    Hey since the reloadable prepaid mastercard is not available for purchase anymore what happens to my card when it expires in july this year , will i get a new card

    Hi, I have deposited money onto the reloadable prepaid master card and I want to withdraw it.
    I tried to do this at an ANZ Atm however, it kept declining saying that my PIN is incorrect. I have already changed my PIN but it keeps declining. I’ve changed it twice now but no luck.
    Are there any other options to transfer money from this account to another? Any suggestions?

    Hello, I am trying to make a purchase online via Steam. I know I have sufficient funds in my account however it is telling me I don’t; ‘Your purchase has not been completed. Your credit card information has been declined by your credit card company due to insufficient funds in the account.’
    Is there a waiting period? I loaded money on the card at Big W over 3 hours ago, and when I login to my account the money is there.

      If the funds have been cleared on your Reloadable Prepaid MasterCard then transactions may be paid for using the funds. Reasons to why the merchant you are transacting with is prompting insufficient funds may be due to a delay. It may be ideal to contact your funds issuer to guarantee the funds have completely cleared.

    I am trying to complete a transaction of $35.00 via my MasterCard debit card but I am repeatedly being told that the card will not make the payment to BPAY even though I deposited a further $20 today to make sure that I had sufficient funds.
    Please examine my account and tell me why and what I need do to complete the purchase?

      Just to confirm, you have come through to finder.com.au, not MasterCard. As mentioned in the Product Disclosure Statement, due to transaction processing procedures, value
      loaded using BPAY® will generally take up to four days to appear on your card.

      Therefore, your card may currently have insufficient funds to complete the transaction and you should have access to the funds over the next few days.
