The Virgin Australia Velocity Flyer Card is designed to reward cardholders as they spend while helping to cut interest costs. It boasts one of the longest interest-free purchase offers on the market, giving you more breathing room to repay your purchases without the burden of interest.

It’s also one of the few long-term 0% purchase credit cards that is also linked with a frequent flyer program and a discounted first-year annual fee. Although it charges a higher standard annual fee than some other 0% purchase credit card offers, you can use the $129 Virgin Australia gift voucher to offset this cost each year.

How to apply

You can apply for the Virgin Australia Velocity Flyer card online in 10 minutes and receive a response within 60 seconds. Before you get started, make sure that you meet the eligibility criteria and have the necessary details to complete the application.

Eligibility criteria

  • Income. You must earn at least $35,000 per year.
  • Residency. Only citizens or permanent residents of Australia will be considered.

Card benefits

  • Velocity Points. For the first $1,500 you spend on eligible transactions each month, you'll earn 0.66 Velocity Points per dollar spent. An earn rate of 0.5 Velocity Points per dollar spent will apply thereafter.
  • $129 gift voucher each year. You can enjoy a $129 Virgin Australia Gift Voucher each year. All you have to do is make a retail purchase with your card within two months before requesting your voucher to unlock your benefit. You can use your voucher to book Virgin Australia flights or selected Virgin Australia holiday packages anytime within the first 6 months from voucher issue date.

Rates & fees

  • Annual fee. Outside of any promotions, a $129 annual fee applies for this card.
  • Additional cardholders. You can request additional cardholders to be linked to your account. A $39 annual fee applies for each card.

Is there an Australian based credit card with complimentary travel insurance for 88 or 90 years old?

      Hello Stan,

      Thank you for your comment.

On this page, you can see details of the underwriting insurance provider, the maximum age for standard coverage and additional details that will be useful when you’re looking at your options.

Looks like NAB’s maximum age for standard coverage is 90.

Please make sure though to read the eligibility criteria, features and details of the card, as well as the relevant PDS/ T&Cs of the card before making a decision and consider whether the product is right for you.

I have a query. My situation is I want to buy a 55K car. I have 35K with me and need 20K to complete a non-interest car purchase. Can I pay 20K from this card and rest as the cash. Will this give me a 14 Months breathing period to pay the rest of 20K with no interest. I cant believe that Virgin will lend me this much money for 14 Months and would not gain anything from this transaction. Regards, Arshad

      Hi Arshad,

      Thank you for your inquiry.

If you are planning to use your credit card for instance this Virgin Australia Velocity Flyer Card – 0% Interest Offer, you may have to make sure that your approved credit limit will be able to cover the $20K for your car purchase. Yes, the 14 months without incurring interest on your purchases could really help in saving up on paying interest. Depending on the car company though, they may allow you to use your credit card, but the question there would be if your approved credit limit on the card is enough to pay the $20K? Please note that your approved credit limit is determined by the bank based on their assessment of your overall financial situation.

With this Virgin Australia Velocity Flyer Card, the minimum credit limit you’ll be approved is $6,000 and the maximum limit is $100,000.

      Cheers,
      May

      Hi Rahul,

Thank you for getting in touch with finder. Yes after 14 months this card will revert to 20.74% p.a. purchase rate and have the interest free period of up to 44 days on purchases. Yes the minimum monthly repayment is 2% or $30, whichever is greater. If you have chosen to pay just $30 a month and it doesn’t cover at least the minimum monthly repayment, you are charged interest and the payment will be considered as missed payment. The interest-free period on purchases is the period or number of days you do not have to pay interest on your card purchases. You will be charged interest either from the day you make a purchase or from the statement date, unless you pay the closing balance in full by the due date (or within the interest-free period) on your statement.

      I hope this helps.

      Have a great day!

      Cheers,
      Jeni

    Hi Leanne,

    Thanks for your question.

This isn’t a current benefit with this card. You might be referring to two other offers with the card that are slightly different. The bonus points offer lets you earn up to 10,000 bonus points if you apply before the cut-off date and spend $5,000 or more on retail purchases on your card within three months of card approval date. The other offer has to do with flights, whereby you can access reduced fares when you and a friend fly together on Virgin Australia saver flights up to four times a year.

    I hope this has helped.

    Thanks,

    Elizabeth

      Hi Edrick,

      Thanks for your question.

The actual application form that you’re filling out is with Virgin Australia, so any problems you have filling out the form will need to be taken up with them directly. You can try filling out the application form again, and if it still doesn’t work then you can call Virgin directly to ask what the problem might be.

      Hope this has helped.

      Thanks,

      Elizabeth

Ist it free to have an additional card holder?
Can an additional card holder be authorised to converse with Virgin over the phone about regarding the account?

      Hi Pamela,
      thanks for the question.

The minimum income for this card is $35,000 gross, and each additional cardholder comes with a fee of $39. You can authorise additional cardholders to make enquiries, but account maintenance, including changing account details, must be done by the primary cardholder.

      Cheers,
      Marc.

Hi Staff, about 2 years ago I applied for a credit card through NAB and ANZ and both times refused because of one indiscretion of a late council rate payment due to the bill being sent to an old address. Once I became aware it was paid immediately but it seems my credit rating has been tarnished since. Now long do I have to wait to return to a good credit rating? I would like to apply for a card like this but I’m not sure what the credit rating check will say and I don’t want to waste the banks and my time. Needless to say I pay my rates by direct debit these days!

I understand the minimum income has to be 35000 but is that gross or net?

      Hi, Wayne.

      Thanks for your question.

Direct debits are a great way of staying on top of your expenses. You will need to have a look at copy of your credit file. You can order a free copy, or pay a fee and get it sent express. This will allow you to see what the lender sees when they asses your credit file. It will also provide information on each type of default and how long it will remain as a listing on your credit file.

      I hope this helps.

      Hi Pat,

      Thanks for your comment.

You need to meet a certain criteria to be eligible. After you’ve met the criteria, then the points will automatically be added to your account.

Here is the criteria, which I’ve copied from above – “You can earn up to 15,000 bonus points when you apply for this card and spend within the first three months. According to the Virgin website, ‘Get 7,500 bonus Points when you apply by 30 June and make a retail purchase within 3 months of card approval. Get an additional 7,500 bonus Points when you spend $5,000 within 3 months of card approval.”

      Cheers,
      Shirley
