Who is HBF?
HBF is an Australian health insurance company which was founded in 1941. It began as the Metropolitan Hospital Benefit Fund, to help Western Australians cover the cost of hospital treatment, later renamed to Hospital Benefit Fund and eventually shortened to HBF.
In the 1980s, HBF began offering home, car and travel insurance. In the 2000s, it began offering life insurance. However, it stopped offering these policies in 2021.
Now, HBF is one Australia's largest not-for-profit health funds and won Best Health Fund of the Year at the 2023 Finder Awards.

HBF stopped offering travel insurance on July 1, 2021. It stopped offering car, home and life insurance on the same day.
Why did HBF stop offering travel insurance?
According to HBF, it stopped offering travel insurance so it could prioritise private health insurance and health services.
