NAB Qantas Plus Credit Card review

The NAB Qantas Plus offers two cards linked to the one account. Both cards earn Qantas Points when you spend, but the American Express has a higher earn rate. The MasterCard is accepted in more locations. Although this is an uncapped Qantas frequent flyer product, the earn rate is reduced once you reach a certain spend.

There are seven types of complementary insurance offered with the NAB Qantas Plus account. The complementary insurance covers purchases you make on the cards and provides medical and travel insurance if you charge a certain amount of your prepaid travel expenses to either the American Express or MasterCard NAB Qantas Plus cards.

Benefits of the NAB Qantas Plus Credit Card

  • Direct earn Qantas frequent flyer credit card

Make an eligible purchase using either the NAB Qantas Plus American Express or MasterCard credit cards and you get Qantas Points. You can earn up to 100,000 Qantas Points each statement period.

The key thing to note is that the earn rate decreases with both the NAB Qantas Plus MasterCard and American Express card once you charge more than $3,000 in eligible purchases to the account.

    • NAB Qantas Plus American Express earn rate - Earn 0.5 Qantas Point per dollar spent on eligible purchases with the NAB Qantas Plus American Express card.

    • Ineligible purchases do not earn Qantas Points - Points are awarded when an eligible purchase is charged to the account. Most transactions count as an eligible purchase, excluding: cash advances (including bills paid over the counter at a bank, financial institution or post office, purchasing traveller’s cheques and balance transfers), credit card fees and charges, gambling purchases, government fees and charges and business purchases.
  • Bonus Qantas Points

If you use the NAB Qantas Plus American Express of MasterCard cards to purchase a Qantas service or product, you will earn 1 extra Qantas Point per dollar spent.

Please explain how $1,630 spent on NAB Amex card and $5,125 on NAB Mastercard (Total $6,755) earns only 1,630 plus 2,164 = 3794 points?

      Hi John,

      Thanks your question.

Just to confirm though that you’ve come through to finder.com.au – a financial comparison website and general information service, not actually NAB.

As for earning points using your NAB Qantas Plus credit card, the points system for AMEX and MasterCard actually differs depending on your spending:

      1. If you have spent between $0-$3,000 – your AMEX card will earn 2 points per $2 and your MasterCard will earn 1 Point per $1
      2. If you have spent between $3,001-$100,000 – your AMEX card will earn 2 Points per $3 and your MasterCard will earn 1 Point per $3.

For the actual computation, you’d be best if you get in contact with NAB directly so they can thoroughly explain to you how they come up your total points. I’ve sent NAB’s phone number to your email.

      I hope this has helped.

      Cheers,
      May

are there any limits to the number of points you can earn in a month. Do you get the same number of points for each dollar spent each month irrespective of how much you spend on your card.
If I spent $10,000 on the Visa in one month how many points would I earn that month?
If I spent a further $10,000 on the Amex card in the same month how many points would I earn that month?

Is there a cap on the number of FF points that I can earn in a month?
Does a different cap apply to overseas spend?
