Coles Gift Cards and Vouchers

Supermarket giant Coles offers a lot of different gift cards when you're shopping in store, including for Coles Group stores and other retailers such as JB Hi-Fi or Netflix.

You can also buy gift cards through the Coles Group website, giftcards.com.au. And if you have points from a rewards credit card or frequent flyer program, you may be able to redeem them for Coles gift cards (among other things). Let's take a look at how it all works.

What types of gift cards does Coles offer?

There are 3 main types of gift cards you can buy at Coles:

1. Coles Group and Myer gift cards that are accepted at one or more partner brands, including Coles, Myer, Target, Kmart and Liquorland.
2. Coles Mastercard Gift Cards that you can use with businesses that accept Mastercard. These gift cards are usually available in-store at Coles Supermarkets and cost $5 for a $100 gift card and $7 for a $250 gift card.
3. Gift cards for other retailers and brands, which can include JB Hi-Fi, Netflix, Apple and Ultimate Gift Cards for a variety of stores. The actual range available depends on which Coles supermarket you're visiting, or whether you're shopping online through giftcards.com.au.

  The gift cards you can buy at Coles are subject to availability, so you may see different options in different supermarkets (or online).

  Each card also has its own terms and conditions. Here's a rundown of some of the most common:

  • Coles Gift Card. You can use these gift cards when you shop in-person at Coles and Coles Central supermarkets. They can be used to pay for most purchases, but you can't use them to buy other gift cards, get cash out or pay an account. Card values range from $10 to $500, and each card comes with a PIN for security.
  • Coles Groceries Gift Card. These gift cards can be used in-store at Coles Supermarkets for everyday groceries and household items. You can't use a Coles Groceries gift card to buy alcohol, tobacco, phone cards or other gift cards.
  • Coles Group Gift Card. This gift card lets you pay for most purchases at Coles Supermarkets, Coles, Coles Central, Coles Express, Liquorland, First Choice Liquor and Vintage Cellars. You can't shop online, buy gift cards or get cash with it.
  • Coles Express Gift Card. You can use this Coles gift card for fuel spending and in-store purchases at selected Coles Express service stations across the country.
  • Coles Group & Myer Gift Card. These cards can be used at a variety of stores and offer customisable designs, including for birthdays, weddings and other special days. You can use them for most purchases, except other gift cards, cash out and payment of accounts. Coles Group & Myer gift cards are accepted at the following stores in Australia:
    • Coles and Coles Express
    • First Choice Liquor
    • Kmart
    • Liquorland
    • Myer (including online)
    • Officeworks
    • Target (including online)
    • Vintage Cellars
  • eGift cards. Coles offers digital or eGift cards for Coles, Target, Kmart and other Coles Group brands. It also offers eGift cards for other brands, Accor Hotels, Cotton On and JB Hi-Fi. Some of these cards can only be used online, some only in-store and others both online and in-store.
  • Store and experience gift cards. When you're in-store at Coles, you'll find a range of gift cards for brands including Kmart, Target, iTunes, Bunnings, Google Play, Event Cinemas, Village Cinemas, JB Hi-Fi and many more. Some of these are available to buy online, too.

What should I think about before buying or using a Coles gift card?

If you’re thinking of giving someone a gift card from Coles or have received one, take note of the following factors:

• Store acceptance

Most Coles-branded gift cards can only be used at specific stores. Some gift cards also limit whether you can use them to shop in-store or online.

For example, a Coles Gift Card can only be used in-store at Coles supermarkets and Coles Central. In comparison, a Coles Group & Myer gift card can be used both in-store and online at Target or Myer but only in-store at Coles, Coles Express, First Choice Liquor Market, Liquorland, Kmart, Myer, Officeworks, Target and Vintage Cellars.

• Card values

There is a minimum amount of $10 and a maximum of $500 for Coles-branded gift cards – except the Coles Gift Mastercard, which is available with a value of $50 or $100.

The minimum amount for gift cards from other brands varies. For example, an eGift card for JB Hi-Fi had a minimum amount of $10 and an IKEA gift card had a minimum of $20 when we looked at eGift cards on the Coles Group gift card website in April 2023.

• Card balance

If you're shopping in a store, you can check your gift card balance at the register. For Coles Gift Cards and other branded cards, you can also check your balance online at giftcards.com.au or by calling 1300 304 990.

If you have a Coles Gift Mastercard, you can check the balance online at https://psc.colesprepaidcards.com.au/ or by calling 1300 095 072.

• Expiry

Coles-branded gift cards are valid for 4 years from the date of issue. You can check the expiry date on your card by visiting the service desk in-store at Coles, or by calling 1300 304 990.

Other gift cards purchased at Coles must have a minimum 3-year expiry period from when they were supplied or purchased. Under Australian consumer law, the gift card must also display these details so that you can check when it will expire. Businesses can refuse to accept expired gift cards, so any money you have left after the expiry date could be lost.

• Security

Coles gift cards are treated as cash and will not be replaced or refunded if they are lost or stolen.

If you have a Coles Mastercard Gift Card and suspect fraud or an unauthorised transaction, you can call 1300 095 072, or the number on the back of your card to report it. Or, email prepaidcards@coles.com.au. The customer support team may be able to investigate a disputed transaction for you.

• Faulty or damaged cards

Coles gift cards will not be reissued unless the faults are a result of the production process or otherwise due to the fault of Coles Group, its agents or contractors or a participating retailer.

• No cash out

You won’t be able to use your Coles gift card to get cash out at the checkout. You also won’t be able to use a gift card to purchase other gift cards.

• Credit card fees

If you buy your gift card with a credit card, it will usually be processed as a cash advance transaction and attract additional fees.

• Limited rewards

You usually won't earn Flybuys points when you buy a Coles gift card. But there are sometimes Flybuys bonus point offers for buying gift cards from other brands, such as Netflix.

Just keep in mind that most rewards credit cards won't offer points per $1 for any gift card purchases.

How to redeem reward points for Coles gift cards

Qantas Frequent Flyer, Velocity Frequent Flyer and most rewards credit cards let you redeem points for gift cards. The range of gift cards varies, but you'll often find Coles or Coles Group & Myer Gift Cards in the mix.

To redeem points for a gift card, you'll need to log in to your rewards account or credit card account, search for "Coles gift cards" among the reward options and then follow the prompts to redeem it.

How many points do I need to get a Coles gift card?

The number of points you'll need depends on the rewards program and the value of the gift card you choose. But to give you a basic idea, you could get a physical $100 Coles Supermarket gift card for 19,606 Velocity Points, while NAB Rewards offers digital $100 Coles Supermarket gift cards from 20,410 points.
