I am thinking to apply for Citibank Clear Platinum Card. To receive the o% balance transfer offer do I have to mention my balance transfer details in the application or I can do that any time later on within the promotional period. Also do I have to do a $1000 purchase along-with balance transfer to be eligible.

      Hi Farooq,

      Thanks for your question.

You’ll need to request the balance transfer during the application. You don’t need to make a $1,000 purchase for the balance transfer to be eligible.

It applies on balances you transfer with this offer at point of application, and on all purchases and cash advances for a period of six months from the date your account is approved.

Hello. If I transfer a balance from my current credit card and then made purchases using the new card from Citibank which balance would get paid off first…. The balance transfer amount or the purchase amount? This will obviously make a difference in relation to the interest rate charged at the end of the 6 month promo period if there is an outstanding balance on the card.

      Hi Nathan,

      Thanks for your question.

I’ve taken this information from the MoneySmart website; “When you make a payment on your new card, there are two ways it can be applied. 1) The credit card issuer will apply it to the balance with the highest interest rate (for example, purchases you have made at the standard interest rate or cash advances at the cash rate, whichever has a higher interest rate). 2) With the credit card issuer’s agreement, you may request that payments be applied in a different way (for example, that any payments made during the balance transfer period will be applied to the balance transfer amount, even if the interest rate is lower)”.

      Hi Ruby

Thank you for your question. There is no obligation to keep the credit card for any set period of time. Once you pay off the credit card in full you can request to have account cancelled.

Can I borrow a cash amount of $1,000 interest free for the first 6 months using this card?

    • Staff
      JacobMarch 20, 2014Staff

      Hi, Emma.

      Thanks for your question.

This product currently offers an interest free promotion on cash advances for the first six months you have the card. This means you can make a cash withdrawal from an ATM or perform a cash transaction (like electronically transferring the funds from your online account to another account) and not pay any interest on this / these transactions for the promotional period. After that, the cash advance rate of interest will apply to any balance you have not paid back from the promotional period.

I hope this helps. Please let us know if you need more information.

      Hi, Emma.

The choice is up to you. You can apply through the applications links offered on our website, in person at a Citibank branch or over the phone.

An online application should take about 10 to 15 minutes and you’ll have a response within a minute of completing the application.

      Thanks for your question.

If I choose to cancel the credit card before 1 year of credit card ownership, is there a fee? (I understand that the balance would need to be at nil or paid out upon closure)

    • Staff
      JacobFebruary 28, 2014Staff

      Hi, Caron.

The current promotion charges a half priced annual fee in the first year, the full annual fee will be charged in subsequent years. You can cancel the card in the first year and only pay a half priced annual fee.

      Thanks for your question.

Hi, can I obtain a cash advance electronically (i.e. transfer an amount off this card online, not out of an ATM) and avoid the 3% cash advance fee that an ATM would attract?

    • Staff
      JacobFebruary 20, 2014Staff

      Hi, Mark.

The cash advance fee applies to all transaction considered a cash advance, including electronic funds transfer from your credit card account to a nominated account.

      Thanks for your question.

Hi guys, this card has 0% cash advance option but is there any fee related to cash advance if i apply through i called to Citibank today; they said – 3.5% fee will be charged on cash advance (one off).(its not interest charge on cash adv. – its one off fee)

    • Staff
      JacobFebruary 18, 2014Staff

      Hi, Faisal.

There is a cash advance fee charged when you use your card to withdraw from the ATM. This is separate to the cash advance rate of interest, which is currently waived for the first six months you have the card. You can view applicable fees and charges by having a look at the table at the bottom of the page.

      Thanks for your question.
