Applying for a credit card online is a convenient and secure process. You can usually complete an online credit card application form in around 10 to 20 minutes and get a response within 60 seconds of submitting it.
If you've never applied online or if you have concerns about the process, here you'll find a step-by-step guide, tips on how to compare cards and the details you need to provide on the application.
This is an important step to help you find the right card for you. Start by thinking about what you want a credit card for and then consider the features, rates and fees applicable to different cards. If you're comparing credit cards on Finder, you can use the comparison tables to look at the product's features and fees side-by-side or click "More info" to read reviews of individual products. You can also check the eligibility requirements to see if you're likely to be approved for the card.
Most Australian credit card issuers offer online applications which you can complete through their website. If you're using Finder to compare and have found a credit card you want to apply for, click the "Go to Site" button. This will take you to a secure online application, where you can review all the card details before filling out the application form.
Before you get started with an online credit card application, make sure you meet the eligibility requirements. These can vary between cards but usually include the following:
As well as the eligibility criteria, the bank will list the specific information you'll need to provide to complete the application. This generally includes personal, financial and employment details including:
Personal details
Employment details
Financial information
During the application, you will be asked about different credit card features you can customise or request, such as your credit limit, additional cardholders:
After you've completed the different sections of the online credit card application form, you'll get a summary of all the details you've provided. This gives you a chance to check that all the information is accurate before you complete the application. In some cases, reviewing these details could be the difference between getting approved or declined, so it's an important step to take.
When you're happy with these details, click "Submit" to finalise the application. Your information will then be recorded with the credit card provider and a credit enquiry will be recorded on your credit file. Most credit card providers will then give you a response within 60 seconds of applying. You may be approved, conditionally approved or declined. The bank may ask for more information before making its final decision.
Once you're approved, you can usually expect your new credit card to arrive in the mail within a week or so. If you're not approved, spend some time comparing other options and improving your credit score before you apply for another one.
If you're ready to get a new credit card, start by comparing a range of options. Once you find one you want to apply for, click through to the application, follow these steps and wait for the response. Have more questions about the application process? Parents wanting to apply for credit card with low limit both on pension wanting for emergency etc
Hi Damien,
Thanks for your inquiry.
There is a range of credit cards your parents can apply for when they’re on a pension or retired. They may be required to meet some extra conditions and provide additional documents before a credit card company will approve their application. Your parents may compare their options from our list of credit cards for pensioners and retirees. On the page, is a comparison table they can use to see which card suits them. They can press the “Go to site” button if they wish to proceed with their application.
Before applying, please ensure that they meet all the eligibility criteria and read through the details of the needed requirements as well as the relevant Product Disclosure Statements/Terms and Conditions when comparing their options before making a decision on whether it is right for them. They can also contact the provider if they have specific questions.
Hope this information helps
Cheers,
Arnold
can a villager can apply for credit card? I am of a remote village and i want to get a credit card
Hi Pranesha,
You can apply for a credit card as long as you meet the eligibility requirements set by the credit card issuer which usually include, but not limited to the following:
Age – must be at least 18 years of age.
Minimum income – which can start at $15,000 p.a. for low-income credit cards and go up to $100,000 p.a. and beyond for higher income products.
Residential status – permanent Australian resident or hold a specific visa to apply for a credit card.
Good credit history – good credit history with no defaults or evidence of bankruptcy to receive approval.
Please note that eligibility requirements vary from issuer to issuer. So, make sure you confirm that you meet the eligibility criteria before you submit your application, as rejected credit card applications can have a negative impact on your credit score.
You can review and compare your credit card options on this page.
I hope this has helped.
Cheers,
Liezl
Hi, I am a new customer , and I would like to know if I could apply a credit card from my country, here in Kiribati , please help me to find a best credit card suitable for me, so I can buy things from online stores etc,
Warm regards. Barnabas.
Hi Barnabas. Thanks for your question. The cards listed on this site are available to permanent Australian residents only and people who have a long-stay Visa. I believe ANZ has a branch on one of the Islands? You may be able to contact them to see if you can get a card. I spoke to the tourism office and they said best to speak to ANZ directly. If you’re just looking to use the card to purchase goods online, you may want to consider an online Visa Card or a pre-paid credit card. Hope this helps. Jacob.
