Important:
Travel insurance rules continue to change as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. We’re working hard to keep up and make sure our guides are up to date, however some information may not be accurate during the pandemic. It’s even more important to double-check all details that matter to you before taking out cover. Please know that some policies may not be available through Finder at this time. Here are some helpful tips:
If you're buying a policy today, it's unlikely that you'll be covered for any coronavirus-related claims
If your travel plans go against government advice, your policy will most likely be voided and you won't be covered
Designed specifically for travellers who want more than a tourist experience, iTrek offers four policies to guard against the mishaps and misadventures of overseas travel. With a range of packs to cover whatever activity you want to try and the option of getting 24 months of cover, iTrek could be right for you.
iTrek travel insurance is not currently available via finder. You can visit their website at www.itrektravelinsurance.com.au for more information or compare alternative options available below.

Finally, some good news! Domestic travel is picking up, so some insurers have started offering cover again 🦘 Just remember, you won't be covered for any pandemic related claims if you do take out domestic travel insurance. International travel insurance is limited and sometimes unavailable at this point.
iTrek travel insurance is underwritten by a number of underwriters at Lloyds, which is the largest insurance market in the world.

Overseas medical emergency assistance and expenses. From medical transfer and evacuation, consultation with medical professionals and necessary medical and dental costs, iTrek can help you pay the bills so you're not stuck with huge out-of-pocket costs.
Personal liability. Getting into trouble overseas can end up with you owing legal expenses or compensation to somebody else. Personal liability may help cover you if this situation arises.
Luggage and personal effects. If your stuff goes missing, gets damaged or is stolen while you're travelling, iTrek can pay to replace or repair it, up to a stated limit. Individual items may be subject to depreciation when calculating their value.
Luggage/personal effects delay expenses. If your airline or tour bus or similar delays your baggage by more than 12 hours, iTrek may sponsor the purchase of important personal items you may need in the meantime. Treatment by chiropractor and physiotherapist. Often excluded from necessary medical cover, iTrek can cover a certain amount of required treatment from chiropractors and physiotherapists.
Rental vehicle insurance excess. When you get into a scrape or incident with a rented vehicle, you're liable to pay an excess to the rental company. This feature can help cover that cost.
Alternative transport expenses. If you have to make emergency travel plans to a wedding, funeral or ticketed event because your planned transport was cancelled or delayed, iTrek may assist you with the costs.
iTrek travel insurance review of policies
Comprehensive
iTrek's best range of protection. Includes unlimited medical expenses, cover for lost luggage and travel documents, personal liability and more. Has the largest maximum benefits of any plan.
Essentials
A smaller version of the comprehensive plan. Still offers medical cover and luggage costs, but omits extras like travel delay expenses and rental vehicle insurance excess.
Long Term Cover
This is a special version of the Comprehensive plan, offering the same benefits but allowing for the period of cover to be extended to 24 months. Only available if travelling to the USA, Canada or the UK.
Medical Only
This plan will only cover you for various medical expenses and provide a basic level of legal liability. Important benefits such as cancellation and luggage cover is not included.
What options can I add-on to my iTrek travel insurance?
In addition to the major benefits outlined above, you can obtain extra cover options at the price of an increased premium. These are generally available for non-Medical Only plans and include:
High value items. If you have the Comprehensive policy, you can add $5,000 of cover for high value items that are less than 12 months old. Winter sports pack. Winter sports are not covered without this option. It also adds in winter sports-specific features like emergency rescue, piste closure, avalanches and bad weather, and winter sports hire equipment.
Bicycle pack. This adds bicycles onto the list of items that will be covered in the event of theft or damage. The bicycle has to be less than three years old.
Adventure pack. Most risky sports and activities are not included in your travel insurance plan. With the adventure pack, you can take part in a wide range of approved activities and still be covered by iTrek.
Trekking pack. If you're planning to go trekking while you're on your trip, you'll need this add-on to cover treks you take with a licensed guide or operator.
What isn't covered by my policy?
No matter what insurance provider you go with, there are situations where they will refuse to pay a claim. For iTrek, they will not cover you if:
You're acting irresponsibly at the time of the incident.
You've engaged in manual labour related to a business or trade while on your trip.
You are doing anything illegal, criminal or prohibited.
You're driving or are a passenger in a vehicle or moped driven by someone who does not hold the appropriate licence for the country you're in.
You decide to travel somewhere that has a current travel warning either from any government or the mass media.
You're travelling with a pre-existing medical condition that hadn't already been approved by iTrek before you purchased your travel policy.
You are under the influence of unprescribed drugs or alcohol at the time of the incident.
Your claim relates to any risky sport or activity, unless you've purchased the appropriate add-on for your policy.

Important information about this website
finder.com.au is one of Australia's leading comparison websites. We compare from a wide set of banks, insurers and product issuers. We value our editorial independence and follow editorial guidelines.
finder.com.au has access to track details from the product issuers listed on our sites. Although we provide information on the products offered by a wide range of issuers, we don't cover every available product or service.
Please note that the information published on our site should not be construed as personal advice and does not consider your personal needs and circumstances. While our site will provide you with factual information and general advice to help you make better decisions, it isn't a substitute for professional advice. You should consider whether the products or services featured on our site are appropriate for your needs. If you're unsure about anything, seek professional advice before you apply for any product or commit to any plan.
Products marked as 'Promoted' or 'Advertisement' are prominently displayed either as a result of a commercial advertising arrangement or to highlight a particular product, provider or feature. Finder may receive remuneration from the Provider if you click on the related link, purchase or enquire about the product. Finder's decision to show a 'promoted' product is neither a recommendation that the product is appropriate for you nor an indication that the product is the best in its category. We encourage you to use the tools and information we provide to compare your options.
Where our site links to particular products or displays 'Go to site' buttons, we may receive a commission, referral fee or payment when you click on those buttons or apply for a product. You can learn more about how we make money here.
When products are grouped in a table or list, the order in which they are initially sorted may be influenced by a range of factors including price, fees and discounts; commercial partnerships; product features; and brand popularity. We provide tools so you can sort and filter these lists to highlight features that matter to you.
We try to take an open and transparent approach and provide a broad-based comparison service. However, you should be aware that while we are an independently owned service, our comparison service does not include all providers or all products available in the market.
Some product issuers may provide products or offer services through multiple brands, associated companies or different labelling arrangements. This can make it difficult for consumers to compare alternatives or identify the companies behind the products. However, we aim to provide information to enable consumers to understand these issues.
Providing or obtaining an estimated insurance quote through us does not guarantee you can get the insurance. Acceptance by insurance companies is based on things like occupation, health and lifestyle. By providing you with the ability to apply for a credit card or loan, we are not guaranteeing that your application will be approved. Your application for credit products is subject to the Provider's terms and conditions as well as their application and lending criteria.
