The Commonwealth Bank is one the Big Four Banks in Australia and one of the largest credit card issuers in the country.
It gives you a choice of cards that range from low rate and low fee to rewards cards, business and corporate credit cards. But the bank does not offer balance transfers on any of its credit cards.
We currently don't have that product, but here are others to consider:

Our expert says
"This credit card paid for my Bose headphones. Not only does it have a high earn rate, but it is accepted in many places where Amex is not. Plus, if you have a CommBank home loan, the annual fee is covered, making this card a no-brainer to use."
Benefits of getting a Commonwealth Bank credit card
CommBank credit cards all come with their own set of features, but let's take a look at some of the key benefits you can get:
CommBank Yello Cashback Offers
CommBank Yello Cashback Offers is a complimentary loyalty program available to anyone over 18 who has the CommBank app and an eligible Mastercard credit card or debit card. It gives you access to cashback offers through the CommBank app, which also includes a tracking tool so you can see how much cash you have got back.
While offer details vary (because they are personalised), you'll typically earn cashback by spending a set amount of money at a partner store or stores. Some examples include spending $50 at Caltex and getting $5 back, spending $100 at Myer and getting $15 back or spending $100 at Menulog and getting $10 back. When you meet the offer requirements, the cashback will be added to your account within 5–14 business days.
CommBank app
The CommBank app gives you a simple way to check your account details and lets you lock, block and limit certain transactions. It's also where you'll see CommBank Yello Cashback Offers and other details about your account.
Mobile contactless payments
Commonwealth Bank credit cards give you a way to make cardless payments with an eligible smartphone or other device, including fitness trackers if you get a personal credit card. So you can add your card to the following services:
Apple Pay
Google Pay
Samsung Pay
Garmin Pay
Commonwealth Bank included travel insurance policy
If you get a new CommBank Smart Awards or Ultimate Awards credit card, you'll get access to international travel insurance. This insurance is provided by Cover-More on behalf of the insurer (Zurich Australian Insurance Ltd). Overseas emergency medical cover is automatically included when you meet the requirements, with other cover available when you activate it through the CommBank app before you travel. Eligibility requirements, terms and conditions and exclusions apply, so make sure you check Commonwealth Bank Credit Card Insurances product disclosure statement for all of the details.
How to apply for a CommBank credit card
Applying for a credit card online is fast and easy. You'll need to be at least 18 years of age and meet the card's eligibility criteria. For more about eligibility, the kinds of documentation you'll need and the factors that can affect whether your card application is approved, check out our full guide to applying for a credit card.
Credit card brands similar to CommBank
If you want to compare CommBank credit cards to those from other lenders, you could consider the other Big Banks in Australia:
Commonwealth Bank Awards do not expire, as long as you are a member of the program. If you close your CommBank Awards credit card account, you'll have 3 months to use your points before they expire.
If you have a Commonwealth Bank Awards credit card, you earn Commonwealth Bank Awards points when you make an eligible purchase. Eligible purchases include everyday transactions such as buying your groceries or filling your car up with petrol. Points are not awarded for cash transactions including cash advances, paying government fees and charges, and credit card fees and charges.
CommBank Yello Cashback Offers is a loyalty program available to eligible credit card and debit card customers who have the CommBank app.
CommBank Awards is a credit card loyalty program that offers eligible credit card customers points per $1 spent. If you have a CommBank Awards credit card, you'll have access to both programs.
You'll get access to CommBank Yello Cashback Offers if you're over 18 years of age and have an eligible CommBank Mastercard. This includes personal debit card, credit card and business credit card accounts that are not in default. It excludes prepaid cards (including the Travel Money card), corporate credit cards and business debit cards.
You can use the steps below to view and activate CommBank Yello Cashback Offers program through the CommBank app:
Log in to the CommBank app.
Go to "Products & Offers", then select "Rewards".
Browse the current offers and click on the "Activate" button to claim the offer.
Use your eligible card to meet the spend requirements at participating stores. Note that you need to tap or select credit when you use your card.
The annual or monthly fee is charged to your credit card and added to your account balance. So if you don't repay your balance in full by the end of the statement period, interest will be applied to the remaining balance. So that could include the cost of the monthly or annual fee.
The Commonwealth Bank no longer accepts balance transfers on its credit cards. You cannot transfer an unpaid card balance from another bank onto a new Commonwealth Bank card.
You can close your CommBank credit card account through the CommBank app or NetBank in the card management or account section. Choose the "Close account" option and then follow the prompts.
Just keep in mind that you'll need to pay the total amount owing on the card – including any interest or fees – before you can fully close the account. You should also check that there are no pending transactions. You can also cancel your card or discuss your account by calling Commonwealth Bank on 13 22 21 or by visiting a Commonwealth Bank branch.
Before leaving for your holiday, make sure you've covered all of these bases:
Make sure you know your PIN. Many places require PIN verification rather than a signature, so you should make sure you have set up and memorised the PIN for your CBA card.
Tell CommBank you are travelling overseas. Before traveling overseas, log in to Netbank and let CommBank know your plans. This will help protect your account security while you're away.
Activate your travel insurance. If your Commonwealth Bank credit card offers included travel insurance, make sure you activate your policy through NetBank before you leave. And if you need to make a claim, call +61 2 8907 5641.
Take note of the emergency contact details. When you're overseas, you can lock, block or limit transactions on your Commonwealth Bank credit card through NetBank or the CommBank app. You can also cancel the card and request a new one. If you want to speak to someone from Commonwealth Bank when you're overseas, call +61 2 9999 3283.

We make money through commercial arrangements with some of the providers on this site. Products marked 'Sponsored', 'Promoted', 'Featured' or 'Advertisement' appear as a result of a commercial arrangement.
Our editorial content, product reviews and any 'Top Pick' designations are prepared independently of these commercial arrangements.

Finder is one of Australia's leading comparison websites. We are committed to our readers and stand by our editorial principles.
Our comparison service does not include every product or every provider in the market. Some product issuers offer their products under multiple brands or through associated companies. Where we can, we identify the underlying issuer so you can compare like with like, but you should always check with the provider directly to confirm which brand you are dealing with.
Finder is a comparison website and an intermediary. We are not a product issuer and we do not provide personal financial or credit advice. When you click a link to a product, or apply for a product through our site, you deal directly with the product issuer. We may receive a referral fee, commission or other payment from the issuer if you click through, apply or take out a product. We describe these arrangements in more detail under 'How we make money' below.
Product features, fees, terms and eligibility criteria are set by the product issuer and may change. We rely on information supplied by issuers when we present product details on our site. Before you apply for or take out any product, you should confirm the details directly with the issuer.
We earn revenue from Finder in four principal ways:
Referral fees and commissions. When you click a product link, complete an enquiry form or apply for a product through our site, we may receive a referral fee, commission or other payment from the product issuer. We may also receive payment based on the volume of leads or conversions we send to an issuer.
Sponsored placements. Products marked 'Sponsored', 'Promoted', 'Featured' or 'Advertisement' appear as a result of a commercial arrangement between Finder and the issuer. These labels always indicate a paid placement. We do not use them for editorial choices.
Display advertising. Banner advertising, newsletter advertising and similar display ads on our site are paid by advertisers.
Content sponsorship. Some articles, videos and social media posts are sponsored by an issuer and are clearly labelled as such.
Our editorial opinions, product reviews and any 'Top Pick' designations are prepared independently of these commercial arrangements. A 'Top Pick' is an editorial choice made by our writers and editors based on the criteria described on each comparison page. A 'Top Pick' is not a personal recommendation and does not mean the product is appropriate for your circumstances.
If you would like to know whether we have a commercial arrangement with a specific product issuer, please contact us.
When products are grouped in a table or list, the default order can be influenced by commercial arrangements we have with product issuers. In some categories, sponsored or featured products appear in the top positions of the table by default, and are always labelled as such.
Other factors that influence default order include price, fees and features, and (where relevant) our editorial view of the product.
You can re-sort every comparison table using the controls above the table. You can filter by product features that matter to you. The order you see after re-sorting or filtering is not influenced by commercial arrangements.
