Our verdict

This platinum rewards card offers 60,000 bonus Qantas Points and complimentary travel insurance, with a discounted $174 first-year annual fee.

The St.George Amplify Qantas Platinum card's 60,000 bonus Qantas Points offer would give you enough points to fly return from Brisbane to Adelaide in business class (55,200 Qantas Points), with some to spare. Or it's enough for $275 worth of JB Hi-Fi digital gift cards (57,080 points for 1 gift card worth $250 and 1 gift card worth $25).

This introductory offer also includes a 0% balance transfer if you're paying off existing debt. Unlike many other providers, St.George offers interest-free days on new purchases when you carry a balance transfer debt. This means that if you pay your monthly payment balance listed on your statement in full by the payment due date each month as well as the full balance transfer amount before the 24 months is over, you will not pay any interest on your credit card. But spending money when you’re paying off a balance transfer can make it harder to pay off before the 0% interest period ends – so think about prioritising any repayments over the temptation to spend and earn points.

Pros

  • 60,000 bonus Qantas Points
  • $174 first-year annual fee ($199 p.a. thereafter), including Qantas fee
  • 0% p.a. for 24 months on balance transfers
  • Earn 0.5 Qantas Point per $1 spent
  • Complimentary travel and purchase insurances

Cons

  • Charges a 1% balance transfer fee
  • Balances remaining at the end of the balance transfer period are subject to the high 21.49% p.a. cash advance rate
  • Earn rate of 0.5 Qantas Points per $1 spent is lower than some other platinum cards
  • Does not offer airport lounge passes

The St.George Amplify Qantas Platinum gives you a way to earn 0.5 Qantas Point per $1 spent on eligible purchases and offers complimentary travel and purchase insurance options. While the earn rate isn't as high as some other Qantas Frequent Flyer credit cards, it is competitive with cards that have similar annual fees.

Hi Amy,

What is the minimum salary that is required to apply for this card?

My Westpac Mastercard just raised Annual Fee + $50 How likely is your card to raise Annual Fee in near future?

Thank you

Hi Anne,

You’d better check with St.George directly about the minimum salary and other eligibility requirements. As for the annual fee raising in the future, it’s really not possible for us to say. Finder is not the credit card provider, we simply list options and help you compare them.

Sorry I can’t be more helpful.

I am self employed so don’t have payslips or relevant bank statements. Do you accept annual ATO tax assessment as proof of income?

Hi Jean

Thanks for your question.

St. George asks self-employed applicants to provide proof that you’ve been in business for at least 18 months, copies of the last two months’ business bank statements and last year’s Notice of Assessment.

I hope that helps,

Elizabeth

Hi Steven,

Thanks for your comment and I hope you are doing well.

This is to confirm that the balance transfer fee of the St. George Amplify Platinum is 0%. As seen above, take not that there are conditions to this 0% balance transfer fee.

– New customers only can avail of this promo

– One must apply by 31 March 2020

– the 0% interest rate is good for the first 22 months only on balance transfers with no balance transfer fee.

Note that after the promotional period, any balance remaining will be charged at the variable cash advance rate, currently 21.49% p.a.

I hope this helps and feel free to reach out to us again for further assistance.

Best,

Nikki

Do all complimentary credit card insurance require the flights to be purchased or could it be just associated costs like car rental and accommodation?

I am heading overseas and I am lucky enough to not need to pay for me flights but I still need to cover my expenses including accommodation etc.

Hi Adam,

Thank you for contacting Finder.

One of St. George’s credit card complimentary travel insurance eligibility requirements is that you must spend at least $500 using your St.George Credit Card for prepaid travel expenses such as car rental or flight booking.

I hope this helps.

Please do not hesitate to reach out again to us if you have additional questions.

Cheers,

Ash

Hi Michelle,

Thanks for your question. As it says on the terms and conditions of this card, existing customers who currently hold an Amplify Platinum or Amplify Signature card issued by St.George, Bank of Melbourne or BankSA, or who have held one in the last 12 months, are not eligible for this offer.

Hope this helps!

Best,

Nikki
