How to make a claim

For extras services, you can claim on the spot using your Australian Unity card, via the Australian Unity health app, online through Member Services, or by emailing a claim form to Australian Unity, with any relevant receipts attached.

For hospital claims, if you've received a bill, you'll need to fill in a Medicare claim form and a two-way claim form to submit your claim to Medicare first. Medicare will then process your forms and send them to Australian Unity to process.

If you've received a Medicare Statement of Benefits, you'll need to fill in an Australian Unity claim form and send it to Australian Unity along with the Statement of Benefits. If you need help with hospital claims, you can call 13 29 39 to contact Australian Unity.

Complaints info

We looked at the Commonwealth Ombudsman's 2024–25 State of the Health Funds report. Here's how Australian Unity stacked up:

  • Australian Unity received 2.7% of all complaints, more than its 2.1% share of the market.
  • That gives it a market-share-to-complaint ratio of 129%, meaning it attracted more complaints than its size would suggest. GMHBA, with the same market share, received 1.8%.
