I have just been approved for the card and am hoping to pay for my upcoming strata bill. The bills payment options list DEFT and Bpay, and I’m wondering if this transaction is eligible to meet the minimum spend requirements for Qantas bonus points?

Hi Michelle,

You can’t earn points on BPAY payments. DEFT should be OK, but keep in mind DEFT charges a card transaction fee. I avoid paying my strata with a credit card for this reason. I think the fee ends up being $9 for me, so the points aren’t really worth it.

Check the fee before you pay, if you are interested in earning points that way.

I have been approved for a Citibank prestige qantas card, and am in the process of buying a new car. Does this qualify as an eligible purchase and if so what would be the points per dollar?

Hi Stephen,

The earn rate is 0.5 points per $1 spent on “other eligible domestic spend”, which would include your car purchase. With this card, there is no points cap, unlike with some other cards, which means you have the potential to earn points on the entire purchase price. Keep in mind that you might get charged a credit card fee of up to 2%, which can add a big extra cost when buying something as substantial as a car.

Hope this helps!

I have just been approved for a Citibank card with bonus points. But I see that it’s a subsidiary of Nab, so if I have a Nab card, does that mean I’m not eligible for the Citibank bonus points?

Hi Kylie,

According to the terms and conditions, this offer is not available when closing or transferring from another Citi branded credit card account or in conjunction with any other Citi branded credit card offer. This means Citi offers bonus reward points to new Citi Rewards Credit Card holders, regardless of whether they are existing NAB customers or not (provided you meet all the eligibility terms and conditions). Hope this helps!

Hi Kylie,

You’d have to check with Citibank to be 100% sure. But looking at the fine print the bonus points offer doesn’t mention NAB and just says the offer is for “New Citi Prestige Qantas Credit Card customers only”.

I hope this helps.

Hi there, when is the annual fee charged? Upon receiving the credit card or at 12 months of using it?

Hi Adaire,

With most cards the annual fee is charged when you activate the card and then every 12 months after that. Citi should be able to give you more information about this.

Do you know what counts as eligible spend to get the bonus points?

Hi Scott, Eligible purchases refer to most everyday transactions like retail shopping, paying an invoice, bookings travel and shopping online.

Ineligible purchases for the purpose of meeting a spend requirement usually include things like: online gambling, interest, fees, cash advances, government payments (eg ATO), balance transfers and BPAY transactions.

Hope this helps!
