Expert review

The St.George Amplify Platinum is linked to the Amplify Rewards program and earns 1 point per $1 on eligible spending, which you can redeem for retail items, gift cards, travel or frequent flyer point transfers to Velocity Frequent Flyer or Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer. As an example, transferring the 100,000 bonus Amplify Points to Velocity Frequent Flyer would give you 50,000 Velocity Points – enough for a return business class flight from Melbourne to the Sunshine Coast (47,000 points). The St.George Amplify Rewards website doesn’t publicly list the value of most other rewards, but you can redeem items with a minimum of 3,000 points.

How to apply

The application process for this card should only take 10 minutes and you'll receive a response within 60 seconds. Before you get started, make sure you've met the eligibility criteria and have the necessary information ready to complete the application.

Eligibility criteria

  • New cardholder. To be eligible for the promotion, you must apply for a new card and cannot hold or have held an Amplify Platinum or Amplify Signature issued by St.George, Bank of Melbourne or BankSA in the previous 12 months.
  • Residency. To apply for this card, you must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident.

Card benefits

  • 100,000 bonus Amplify Points. Receive 100,000 bonus points when you apply, get approved by 30 June 2022 and spend $3,000 on eligible purchases within the first 90 days of card approval. Most everyday purchases are considered eligible, but BPAY transactions, fees, cash advances, balance transfers, ATO payments and other selected transactions are not.
  • First-year annual fee discount. Apply by 30 June 2022 and save with a $29 annual fee in the first year (reverts to $99 p.a. thereafter).

Rates & fees

  • Annual fee. Outside of any promotions, this card charges an annual fee of $99.
  • Interest-free period. You will receive up to 55 days interest-free on new purchases when you pay your monthly payment balance listed on your statement in full by the payment due date. Note that these interest-free days are separate from any longer-term interest rate promotions and the monthly payment balance excludes current balance transfers.

    Hello

Why do you have to have an employer to have an income? What if the income threshold is exceeded with investments, savings, interest and dividends?

      Hi Chris,

      Thanks for your question.

If you don’t have an employer and would like to apply for this card as self-employed, St. George may consider your application, but you have to provide a Notice of Assessment. If you’ve been self-employed for less than a year, you won’t be able to apply.

      Cheers,
      Anndy

    Hi!

Could we choose the 30,000 bonus point between Qantas reward program or Amplify reward program when we spent $2500 for the first 90 days after we applied for the card?

      Hi Anna.

      Thank you for your inquiry.

You can choose between Amplify Rewards or Qantas Rewards with the St.George Amplify Platinum credit card as long as you spend $2,500 in eligible purchases and if your card application is approved before January 4, 2017.

      Cheers,
      Jason

I am about to travel within Australia and will be hiring a car for 5 days. Does the travel insurance attached to my card cover or reduce the excess insurance that car hire companies offer or do I need to take out extra cover when I hire the car? And, if cover is provided, what is the excess I still have to pay?

Hi Rob, thanks for your inquiry!

St.George will reimburse you up to A$5,500 for any insurance excess or deductible which you become legally liable to pay in respect of a claim under the comprehensive insurance policy of the rental vehicle during the rental period provided. You must pay the first A$250 for each claim. Please refer to page 41 of the PDF I have sent to your email on the full terms of this policy, to ensure that you are covered.

      Cheers,

      Jonathan

Hi Rick, thanks for your inquiry!

The requirements for this bonus points offer are making a first eligible purchase before 31 July 2015. Eligible purchases do not include fees, cash, cash equivalent transactions, refunds or balance transfers debited from the card account. Bonus points will be transferred within three months after the first purchase transaction is debited to your account.

      Cheers,

With Qantas Frequent Flyer programme, does one earn 1 point per $1 spent like other credit card providers, or do you offer only 1/2 a point for $1 spent?
    Thanks

Hi Ray, thanks for your inquiry!

The St. George Amplify Platinum card provides the choice between earning Amplify points or Qantas Frequent Flyers points directly. If Amplify points are chosen you will only have the choice of Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer Miles, Malaysia Airlines Enrich points or Velocity Frequent Flyer Points.

      Cheers,

      Jonathan
