Kogan started offering insurance in 2017, after building a reputation for quality and affordability over more than a decade.
Working alongside Hollard Insurance, Kogan aims to make its policies the most affordable in Australia, with a range of automatic inclusions and optional extras for each cover type. Kogan offers three types of car insurance:
The highest level of cover available, covers you against losses resulting from accidents on the road as well as fire, theft, attempted theft or malicious damage and a wide range of natural events such as storms, hail and flooding.
Kogan comprehensive car insurance includes the full range of additional benefits:
With comprehensive cover, you can choose from the full range of Kogan car insurance optional extras:
This includes legal liability cover for damage you might cause to other people’s cars or property, as well as cover for:
With Kogan third party property, fire and theft car insurance, you also get a range of automatically included additional benefits, but not as many as you’ll find with a comprehensive policy.
With Kogan third party property, fire and theft car insurance, you can choose from the full range of Kogan car insurance optional extras:
This basic policy provides legal liability cover in the event that you cause damage to other people’s cars or property. It offers up to $20 million worth of legal liability cover, including cover for legal costs that may be incurred by defending yourself against claims from other people.
It also includes an uninsured motorist extension, so you will be insured for damage caused by an uninsured driver. This uninsured motorist extension can pay out up to $3,000. If you're driving an uninsured substitute vehicle following a claim under this extension, it will also give you legal liability cover for that car.
You can opt in for roadside assistance, which is provided by Digicall Assistance. This offers 24/7 emergency roadside assistance around Australia.
Kogan’s pay-as-you-drive car insurance is designed for people who want all the benefits of comprehensive car insurance, but don’t want to pay the full amount because they only drive a limited amount per year.
With this option, you pick a distance in kilometres. This should be the maximum distance you expect to drive in one insurance period (typically 12 months). This distance will be used to determine if you qualify for pay as you drive insurance.
The minimum distance you can choose is 1,000 km. If you exceed the agreed kilometre distance during an insurance period you’re still covered, but an additional excess will apply to any claims you make.
It offers all the same benefits as the comprehensive car insurance policy, but it could be a much more cost effective option for people who don’t drive that much.

Kogan car insurance will not pay your claim in the following circumstances:
There are several factors that influence exactly how much your Kogan car insurance premium will cost, including:
The excess is the amount of money you are required to contribute towards the cost of a claim. You won’t need to pay an excess if you can demonstrate that you were not at fault for the damage and you are able to identify the other car and provide its registration number and the driver or owner's name and address.
The following excesses may apply to your cover (some excesses will apply in addition to the basic excess):
finder.com.au is one of Australia's leading comparison websites. We compare from a wide set of banks, insurers and product issuers. We value our editorial independence and follow editorial guidelines.
finder.com.au has access to track details from the product issuers listed on our sites. Although we provide information on the products offered by a wide range of issuers, we don't cover every available product or service.
Please note that the information published on our site should not be construed as personal advice and does not consider your personal needs and circumstances. Products marked as 'Promoted' or 'Advertisement' are prominently displayed either as a result of a commercial advertising arrangement or to highlight a particular product, provider or feature. Finder may receive remuneration from the Provider if you click on the related link, purchase or enquire about the product. Finder's decision to show a 'promoted' product is neither a recommendation that the product is appropriate for you nor an indication that the product is the best in its category. We encourage you to use the tools and information we provide to compare your options.
Where our site links to particular products or displays 'Go to site' buttons, we may receive a commission, referral fee or payment when you click on those buttons or apply for a product. You can learn more about how we make money here.
When products are grouped in a table or list, the order in which they are initially sorted may be influenced by a range of factors including price, fees and discounts; commercial partnerships; product features; and brand popularity. We provide tools so you can sort and filter these lists to highlight features that matter to you.
We try to take an open and transparent approach and provide a broad-based comparison service. However, you should be aware that while we are an independently owned service, our comparison service does not include all providers or all products available in the market.
Some product issuers may provide products or offer services through multiple brands, associated companies or different labelling arrangements. This can make it difficult for consumers to compare alternatives or identify the companies behind the products. However, we aim to provide information to enable consumers to understand these issues.
Providing or obtaining an estimated insurance quote through us does not guarantee you can get the insurance. Acceptance by insurance companies is based on things like occupation, health and lifestyle. By providing you with the ability to apply for a credit card or loan, we are not guaranteeing that your application will be approved. Your application for credit products is subject to the Provider's terms and conditions as well as their application and lending criteria.
