  • Cover for towing costs. Unlimited cover for reasonable and necessary towing expenses, as required to get your damaged car to a safe place.
Optional extras

With Kogan third party property, fire and theft car insurance, you can choose from the full range of Kogan car insurance optional extras:

  • Roadside assistance. 24/7 emergency roadside assistance across Australia.
  • Excess-free windscreen cover. Allows you to avoid paying an excess on claims for broken or damaged windscreens.
  • Hire car after theft: Up to $70 a day to help cover the cost of a rental car, for up to 14 days or until your car is returned to you and repaired if needed.

Third party property damage car insurance

This basic policy provides legal liability cover in the event that you cause damage to other people’s cars or property. It offers up to $20 million worth of legal liability cover, including cover for legal costs that may be incurred by defending yourself against claims from other people.

Included additional benefits

It also includes an uninsured motorist extension, so you will be insured for damage caused by an uninsured driver. This uninsured motorist extension can pay out up to $3,000. If you’re driving a substitute rental vehicle following a claim under this extension, it will also give you legal liability cover for that car.

Optional extras

You can opt in for roadside assistance, which is provided by Digicall Assistance. This offers 24/7 emergency roadside assistance around Australia.

Pay-as-you-drive car insurance

Kogan’s pay-as-you-drive car insurance is designed for people who want all the benefits of comprehensive car insurance, but don’t want to pay the full amount because they only drive a limited amount per year.

With this option, you pick a distance in kilometres. This should be the maximum distance you expect to drive in one insurance period (typically 12 months). This distance will be used to determine how much cheaper your comprehensive car insurance will be.

The minimum distance you can choose is 1,000 km. If you exceed this distance during an insurance period you’re still covered, but an additional excess will apply to any claims you make.

It offers all the same benefits as the comprehensive car insurance policy, but it's a much more cost effective option for people who don’t drive that much.

  • Your car was being driven by someone who was not properly licensed.
  • Your car was driven by someone on a learner license not accompanied by a fully licensed driver.
  • Your car was being driven by someone under the influence of alcohol (over the legal limit) or drugs, or who refused to undergo a drug or alcohol test if asked by the police.
  • Your car was being used as a courier or delivery vehicle, or to carry dangerous or polluting goods in large quantities.
  • Your car was being used for any motor sport or racing.
  • You were using your car to carry more passengers or tow a heavier load than it was designed to do.
  • Your car was in an un-roadworthy condition.
  • Your car was being driven outside of Australia.
  • Your claim resulted from a deliberate, intentional or malicious act by you or someone acting with your consent.
  • Your claim is for any consequential loss caused by you knowingly driving your vehicle in a damaged condition.
  • Your claim is for depreciation, wear and tear, rust, corrosion or for mechanical, electrical or computer breakdowns.
  • Your claim is for any repairs carried out without the express consent of Kogan car insurance.
  • Your claim is for damage to tyres by punctures, cuts or bursts.
  • You have failed to take reasonable steps to protect your car and prevent loss or damage.
  • Your car has been modified or fitted with non-standard accessories without the express consent of Kogan car insurance.

How much does Kogan car insurance cost?

There are several factors that influence exactly how much your Kogan car insurance premium will cost, including:

  • The policy type and optional extras you choose
  • The claims history of the people who will drive your vehicle
  • The age of the drivers and how much driving experience they have
  • The age, make and model of your vehicle and any accessories or modifications
  • The postcode where your car is kept and whether or not it will be kept garaged overnight
  • How you use your car
  • Whether you opt for agreed value or market value cover
  • The excess you choose to pay

What is an excess and what does it do?

The excess is the amount of money you are required to contribute towards the cost of a claim. You won’t need to pay an excess if you can demonstrate that you were not at fault for the damage.

The following excesses may apply to your cover:

  • Basic excess. This is the amount that you can choose, which will be listed on your certificate of insurance and which will influence the cost of your premiums.
  • Age excess. This may apply in addition to other excesses if, at the time of the incident, your car was being driven by someone aged between 18 and 25. It does not apply to learner drivers.
  • Inexperienced and learner driver excess. This applies if, at the time of the incident, your car was being driven by a learner driver under the age of 18, or someone over the age of 25 who has not held a provisional or full Australian driver’s licence for more than two years.
  • Undeclared young driver excess. If your car is driven by someone under 25 years of age who has not been declared as a driver of your car on your certificate of insurance, this excess will apply.
  • Special excess. Kogan may apply a special excess in some situations, depending on your car, how it is used and the claims history of the drivers of your car.
  • Kilometre range excess. This excess only applies to pay-as-you-drive policies if you exceed the agreed kilometre range as shown on your certificate of insurance.

How can I save money on my policy?

  • Have you considered pay-as-you-drive? If you don’t do a lot of driving each year, you might be able to save a lot on your premiums with a pay-as-you-drive policy.
  • Does market value work for you? Agreed value policies usually incur higher premiums, though that doesn’t necessarily mean that they’re not the right option for you.
  • How much cover do you really need? If you don’t require comprehensive cover, you could save money by choosing a more basic level of cover, while still getting a range of additional benefits and features.
  • Which extras do you need? Only choose the extras that you actually need. For example, your credit card might offer complimentary roadside assistance, so you won't need to select this extra.
  • Can you afford a higher excess? A higher excess can reduce your premiums considerably.
  • Should I buy online? Kogan offers up to 5% off your premium if you purchase your policy online.
  • Any drivers under 25? If no one under 25 will be driving your car, you can specifically exclude them from your policy to help you cut costs. If you do this while also signing up online, you can get up to 10% off.

Is Kogan car insurance right for you?

If you’re looking for comprehensive pay-as-you-drive car insurance, Kogan might be a good choice for you. If you’re looking for an insurer that can cover trailers and caravans while they're being towed or car insurance that also covers your car while it's being transported, you may want to consider Kogan.

If you’re looking for a balance of a lower premium with reasonable cover, you might also be interested in Kogan's third party property, fire and theft car insurance, which includes a wide range of features, in addition to cover for legal liability, fire and theft.
