Exclusions

All policies have incidents they won't cover. Policy exclusions can differ, but generally, they'll include the following:

  • No cover while driving under the influence of anything not prescribed by a doctor
  • No cover outside of Australia
  • No cover if your vehicle's being used for any unlawful purpose
  • No cover in the event of too many passengers or towing a load that's too heavy
  • No cover if your vehicle's being driven in an unsafe or overloaded condition
  • No cover if you're carrying or storing explosives or flammables

Read Club 4X4's product disclosure statement (PDS) – available on its website – to learn more about the provider's policy exclusions.

Keep in mind you'll need to pay an excess to make a claim on your insurance. This is what you need to pay upfront towards the cost of making a claim. Excess options should be stated when you sign up. At the time of writing, the lowest excess available with Club 4X4 was $650.

According to Club 4X4, you could reduce your premium in 3 ways: paying for your insurance annually, increasing your basic excess or adding age restrictions excluding drivers below a certain age from cover.

Bottom line about Club 4X4 car insurance

Club 4X4 comprehensive insurance policy is both flexible and set up to meet a wide range of risks for drivers – whether they're on- or off-road at the time when trouble strikes. Cover limits are pretty competitive and you'll have choice that goes beyond cover for your 4WD and its accessories: you can also choose caravan, camper trailer, slide-on camper or 5th wheeler insurance.

Meanwhile, optional covers with Club 4X4 include roadside assistance and excess-free windscreen or glass cover. You can further boost your insurance with additional vehicle hire cover, off-road recovery costs and personal effects cover. You'll need to pay extras to add these features to your cover.
