  • It is for loss, damage or liability deliberately caused by you, a family member, or a nominated or authorised driver

  • Your claim arises due to the lawful destruction or confiscation of your property
  • Your vehicle was driven in an unsafe condition or by an unlicensed driver
  • Your vehicle was driven while unregistered
  • Your vehicle was damaged in an incident and you did not take reasonable steps to prevent further loss or damage occurring
  • It is for reduction in value of your vehicle due to its age or condition
  • It is for loss or damage caused by rust or corrosion
  • It is for tyre damage caused by applying the brakes, or by punctures, cuts or bursts

Bendigo Bank Car Insurance excess

When you make a claim on your policy you may need to pay an excess, which is the amount you contribute towards the overall cost of a claim. The insurer will tell if you need to pay an excess, and there are four types of excess that may apply:

  • Basic excess. This excess amount varies depending on the make and model of your vehicle, and the state or territory where you drive your vehicle.
  • Age excess. The age excess applies when the driver of your vehicle at the time of an incident is less than 25 years old.
  • Inexperienced driver's excess. This excess applies when the driver of your vehicle is 25 years of age or older but has not held a driver's licence for the two consecutive years leading up to your claim.
  • Additional excess. The additional excess applies when the insurer has agreed to cover your vehicle, or any person authorised to drive your vehicle, under special terms.

How to save on your Bendigo Bank Car Insurance policy

Keep the following tips in mind if you're looking for ways to save money on your Bendigo Bank Car Insurance premiums:

  • No-claim bonus. You can receive a discount on your premium for each year you do not make an at-fault claim on your policy.
  • Choose a lower level of cover. Comprehensive cover is the most expensive option, while Third Party Fire and Theft Car Insurance is more affordable and Third Party Property Damage cover is cheaper again.
  • Choose a Nominated Driver policy. You have the option to restrict cover to no more than two nominated drivers who are over the age of 25. This can help lower your premium amount.
  • Choose a Nominated Driver Low Kilometre policy. Under this type of policy, your premium is calculated on the basis that your car will be driven by no more than two nominated drivers who are over the age of 25, and that your car will not be driven any more than 10,000 kilometres during the period of insurance.

Making a claim

You can make a claim on your Bendigo Bank Car Insurance policy in one of two ways:

  • Phone. You can phone CGU on 132 480. The line is open 24 hours a day.
  • Online. You can submit your claim using CGU's online claims service.

A claims consultant will guide you through the process and let you know what information you will need to provide to support your claim. You will usually need to supply:

  • Your policy number
  • Your personal details
  • A description of the incident leading to your claim
  • The date of the loss or incident
  • Where the loss or incident occurred
  • Details of other parties involved (if applicable), such as witnesses or the drivers of other vehicles

Your claims consultant will keep you informed of the progress of your claim along the way, and CGU aims to process all claims as quickly as possible.
