Private health insurance in Australia is a funny old system. We've always got Medicare in our back pocket, but having private cover has a lot of really big upsides, including:
- Shorter wait times for surgery
- Your choice of doctor
- Avoiding some nasty tax impacts!

Medibank: 12 weeks free AND a gift card
Medibank have one of the best deals in market right now. If you sign up for eligible hospital and extras cover, you can score up to 12 weeks free, plus $500 in gift cards! They'll also waive any 2 & 6 month waiting periods for extras.
If you're just after extras cover, Medibank has a deal for you as well. Sign up to an eligible policy this month and you could score up to 8 weeks free and $50 worth of gift cards. Again, they'll waive your 2 & 6 month waiting periods on extras, so you can start claiming right away.
ahm: 12 weeks free PLUS extras limit rollovers
Not to be beaten, ahm are also offering up to 12 weeks free if you take out an eligible hospital and extras policy, as well as up to 8 weeks free if you just take out an eligible extras policy. They'll also waive those 2 & 6 month waiting periods for extras.
While ahm aren't offering any gift cards, it's offering extras limit rollovers into the next financial year. Now, because they'll waive 2 & 6 month extras waiting periods, that means signing up in June will give you 2 years' worth of extras benefits once July rolls around.
Qantas: Up to 140,000 bonus Frequent Flyer points

HCF: The best deal for not-for-profit lovers
HCF are offering 8 weeks free if you take out an eligible hospital and extras policy. This isn't as long as some of the other big funds are offering, but HCF has some unique benefits that will matter a lot to some people.
For one, they're a not-for-profit health fund, Australia's biggest as a matter-of-fact. They also had the lowest rate rise of all the big funds this year.
Bupa: 12 weeks free for combined and stand-alone hospital cover
Bupa are one of the world's most trusted health insurance brands, and it's bringing the heat with this month's deals. Bupa is offering 12 weeks free with eligible extras and hospital plans, plus waiving 2 & 6 month waiting periods for extras.
Don't need extras? Bupa might be your best bet, as it's offering 6 weeks free on eligible hospital-only policies.
