Pros
- Australian Seniors health insurance is issued by nib, one of Australia's biggest and longest running health funds.
- Australian Seniors has a Silver Plus tier custom made for older Australians. It's similar to a Gold policy, but without high cost treatments like child birth and reproductive services. That makes it more affordable for seniors, who are less likely to use those services.
- I called to ask a quick question about their Gold Policy while writing this article, and they were very nice.
Cons
- The top Silver Plus policy doesn't cover some potentially important categories, including weight loss surgery and dialysis for chronic kidney failure. A full gold option is available over the phone, but you'll need to bundle it with extras.
- Australian Seniors doesn't have a Basic tier hospital policy. That's okay, as they provide very little actual cover, but if you're only after a policy to avoid the Medicare Levy Surcharge, there are cheaper options.
