Earn 100,000 Qantas Points with the Amex Qantas Ultimate card

American Express’ latest offer boasts almost double as many bonus Qantas Points for new cardholders.

American Express has given its Qantas Ultimate card a facelift with its latest bonus points promotion. If you apply for the Amex Qantas Ultimate Card and spend $1,500 in the first three months, you’ll receive 100,000 bonus Qantas Points. That’s enough points to get you an Economy return flight from Sydney to Los Angeles for 90,000 points! Or if you prefer to fly in luxury, you could take a one-way Business flight to LA for 95,000 points.

This offer is only available through affiliate sites such as finder, so you won’t enjoy the same bonus points if you apply through the American Express website or over the phone. It’s also only available to new applicants who apply by 31 July 2017, so you’ll need to submit your application within the next week if you want to give your rewards balance a 100,000 point boost.

As with the current offer, you’ll continue to earn 1.5 Qantas Points per $1 spent on eligible purchases and 0.5 Qantas Points per dollar spent on government transactions. If you use your card to spend with Qantas, whether you’re booking a flight or paying for your Qantas Club membership, you’ll collect an additional 1 Qantas Point per dollar on top of the standard earn rate.

As a premium rewards product, the card is also packed with benefits tailored for frequent flyers and travellers. If you use the card to pay for travel costs, you can save time and money with complimentary travel insurance. You can also relax before your next flight in style with two entries to the American Express Lounge at Sydney International Airport (Kingsford Smith) each calendar year. Once you’ve used your card for domestic purchases, you’ll also receive a complimentary domestic return economy flight ticket from Qantas.

If you’re struggling to repay an existing debt, the card also offers 0% p.a. on balance transfers for the first 12 months (reverts to 20.74% thereafter). It’s worth noting that a 1% balance transfer fee applies and balance transfers don’t earn points.

These perks come at the cost of a $450 p.a. annual fee and purchase rate of 20.74% p.a, so it’s best suited to cardholders who regularly repay their balance in full.

How does it compare to the standard American Express Qantas Ultimate card offer?Qantas-Amex-Ultimate250x160

If you were to apply for the Amex Qantas Ultimate outside of an affiliate site like finder, the major difference you’d notice is the bonus points promotion.

Ordinarily, you’d only earn 55,000 Qantas Points when you spend $1,500 on eligible purchases in the first three months. Meanwhile you’ll earn almost double as many Qantas Points when you spend the same amount with this promotional offer.

This could mean the difference between a return Economy flight from Sydney to Las Vegas (worth 45,000 points) or an upgrade to Business class for a one-way flight (worth 96,000 points). Considering they both have the same spend requirement, it’s clear that the current affiliate bonus points promotion offers more bang for your buck.

There is no one best credit card on the market. But if you were already considering the American Express Qantas Ultimate card or another Qantas Frequent Flyer card, this promotional 100,000 bonus points offer could help you get more value from your new card. As always, make sure you check that you meet the eligibility requirements and compare your options before submitting an application.

I have spent $4k on Amex, how/when are points credited to my Qantas frequent flyer account?

      JeniApril 23, 2018Finder

      Hi Miro,

Thank you for getting in touch with finder.

Since you have spent $4,000 using your Amex card, your earned points would depend on how you use your card.

You’ll continue to earn 1.5 Qantas Points per $1 spent on eligible purchases and 0.5 Qantas Points per dollar spent on government transactions. If you use your card to spend with Qantas, whether you’re booking a flight or paying for your Qantas Club membership, you’ll collect an additional 1 Qantas Point per dollar on top of the standard earn rate.

Earned points will reflect on your Qantas FF account from 4 to 12 weeks after your purchase.

      I hope this helps.

      Have a great day!
