Expert review

With the Velocity Frequent Flyer version of the BOQ Specialist Platinum card, you’ll earn 0.5 Velocity Points per $1 spent on eligible purchases in Australia and 1 point per $1 on international purchases. While there are cards that offer higher earn rates than this, they often have annual fees above the $150 you’ll pay for this card.

But where the BOQ Specialist Platinum really shines is with its complimentary perks. As well as comprehensive overseas travel insurance, this card offers interstate flight inconvenience insurance, transit accident insurance and global car hire excess waiver insurance. If you’re a keen golfer, you’ll also benefit from golfers’ insurance against accidental theft or damage of your clubs – with claims of up to $2,500 per year.
