Do you have to be a client of your Bank to apply for this credit card?
Do you have gift cards for the rewards program, eg Myers Gift card,
David Jones and JB Hi fi?
Does the security on this card detect unusual activity and notifies the owner straight away?

      Hi Deb,

      Thanks for your questions.

You don’t have to be a client of Bankwest to apply for Bankwest More MasterCard, but other eligibility criteria apply as listed above.

Unfortunately, Bankwest doesn’t offer gift cards.

As for security, Bankwest may or may not be able to immediately detect fraudulent transactions, but credit card holders are protected by MasterCard Zero Liability Guarantee that provides full reimbursement if you’re a victim of credit card fraud. The card’s chip, PIN and Bankwest’s account monitoring services also provide added protection.

      I hope this helps.

      Cheers,
      Anndy

    Hi
I have a MasterCard platinum, with an 18month 0% balance transfer offer. I’ve recently found out that any charges I make to the card after the balance transfer (on top of the balance transferred) will only be paid down once the full amount of the balance transfer is paid. This effectively means I will pay credit card interest on any spend on the card, until the interest free amount is paid down. Seems counter productive (and is different to what I was advised verbally by the salesman). Surely this encourages me not to the use the card at all, until the interest free period has expired?

Is this your understanding of a common fine print issue?

    Thanks

      Hi Mr Ward,

      Thanks for your inquiry.

It’s not recommended to use one card for both balance transfers and purchases. Instead, if you have a balance you need to transfer, you may consider using a separate card for balance transfers. If you use your balance transfer credit card for purchases or cash advances during the promotional period, your repayments will go towards your purchase and cash advance debt first (as they carry a higher interest rate) and then your balance transfer debt.

You may also refer to this article on how not to fall for a balance transfer trap.

      I hope this helps.

    Hi

I see your answer below stating that Westpac,BOM,St George and Bankwest all fall under the Westpac Group.

Does this mean we only need to apply to one as if we are rejected by one it will most likely be declined by all?

I haven’t applied yet but thought if this is the case I should choose wisely out of the above on where I apply.
    Thank you

Hi Leslie, thanks for your inquiry!

Even though the banks mentioned all fall under the Westpac group, the application criteria and requirements for each credit card will vary. It would be best to assess your ability to repay a credit card and choose the product that best suits your needs.

      Cheers,

      Jonathan

Hi…I’m looking to roll over some credit card debt to take advantage of the 0% interest period…My question is – given that my debt is with Westpac and Bank Of Melbourne and St. George are part of the Westpac group…Could that mean the application would be rejected as it would be more profitable to leave my debt where it is and about to go from 0% to cash advance rates.
    Thank You

      Jonathan | February 20, 2015

Hi Brett, thanks for your inquiry!

If you meet the application requirements you can request a balance transfer. Please note that balance transfers can only amount to 95% of the credit limit and you or the Additional Cardholder (as relevant) are not in default of the terms and conditions applicable to the account from which the transfer is made.

      Cheers,

      Jonathan

already have a bankwest card in a 0% balance transfer contract maybe half way through. Can I apply for another card at 0%. That way have 2 card – the current one and a new one with new debit

    • Staff
      Jonathan | February 12, 2015

Hi Tammy, thanks for your inquiry!

You can apply for another credit card as long as you meet the lender’s requirements. Please note that balance transfers between two credit cards within the same lender are not possible, so you cannot balance transfer an amount from one Bankwest credit card to another.

      Cheers,

      Jonathan

If my husband applies for this card with the interest free period, can he incorporate debt from a card (different bank) in my name?

    • Staff
      Jonathan | January 19, 2015

      Hi Lesley,

      Thanks for your question!

In regards to balance transferring an amount of debt from a partner or spouse there are a couple of things to consider. It will depend on the credit issuer and the type of account the transfer is originating from and the recipient account type. Bankwest’s terms for joint balance transfers include “You can transfer between any two people’s names provided they are added as a signatory to the new account.” For the full details regarding balance transferring an amount from a partner please see this page.

      I hope this helps!

      Cheers,

      Jonathan
