ANZ Rewards Black credit card review

The ANZ Rewards Black is the most premium card offered in the lineup of ANZ Rewards cards. It offers no annual fee for the first year ($375 p.a. thereafter). Most black credit cards have an annual fee of between $300 and $450, so the card’s standard annual fee is relatively competitive.

The card also offers up to 2 ANZ Rewards Points per $1 spent on eligible purchases up to $5,000 per statement period. After this, you’ll earn 1 Rewards Point per $1 spent.

Benefits of the ANZ Rewards Black credit card

  • Sign up bonus points. Receive 75,000 bonus Reward Points when you apply, are approved, and spend $2,500 on eligible purchases in the first 3 months from card approval.
  • Earn ANZ Rewards. This card boasts ANZ’s most competitive points earn rate. You’ll earn 2 ANZ Rewards Points per $1 spent on eligible purchases up to $5,000 per statement period. You’ll then earn 1 Rewards Point per $1 spent for spending above $5,000.
  • No annual fee promotion. You can save on card costs with a promotional $0 annual fee for the first year. This will revert to the higher standard annual fee of $375 p.a. thereafter.
  • Redeeming points. If you belong to a partnered frequent flyer program, you can transfer your ANZ Rewards Points for airline loyalty points with Virgin Australia’s Velocity, Air New Zealand, Singapore Airlines Krisflyer or Cathay Pacific Asia Miles. You can also redeem your points for cash back, gift cards and a variety of merchandise via the ANZ Rewards store. Hi,

I have been approved for the ANZ black rewards credit card on 01/08/2017. I have had this card last year and cancelled it on 17/08/2016. If I activate the the new card after 17/08/2017 will I still qualify for the 75,000 bonus rewards points?

Is the condition for not having the existing card in the last twelve months from the approval date of the new card or activation date of the new card?

    Thanks.

      Hi John,

Thanks for your inquiry. Please note that we are not affiliated with ANZ or any company we feature on our site and so we can only offer you general advice.

The offer is not available if you have currently closed an ANZ Rewards, ANZ Rewards Platinum or ANZ Rewards Black credit card within the previous twelve months.

This offer applies only once per eligible customer. Your application must be approved and you must activate the card and make $2,500 worth of eligible purchases within three months of approval to receive the bonus Reward Points. Eligible Purchase means purchases which are eligible to earn Reward Points.

You can be eligible for this offer after 12 months that you have canceled your ANZ Black Rewards credit card. You may confirm this info by contacting ANZ directly.

      Cheers,
      Rench

      Hi Warren,

      Thank you for your inquiry.

The complimentary access to participating airport lounges is available to eligible ANZ Rewards Black and ANZ Frequent Flyer Black cardholders including their additional cardholders only. If your partner is your additional cardholder, then she will also be eligible for the lounge access, otherwise, no.

To gain complimentary access to a Participating Lounge you must present:
      a. your Eligible Card; and
      b. a current and valid flight boarding pass in the same name as the Eligible Card, at the entrance to the Participating Lounge.

The participating airport lounges can be found on velocelounges.com and are subject to change.

      Hope this helps.

      Cheers,
      May

I already have a “Black” card with a #20,000 limit from one of your competitors (one of the “big” 4) but now retired no longer have a salary – just my super. Do you have some type of “transfer recognition” if I come over to ANZ and what bonus points would be available e.g. on an ANZ rewards black card if you are able to give me recognition.
    Thanks in anticipation. M

Hi Madison, thanks for your inquiry!

Whilst there is no ‘transfer recognition’ system between banks, you are eligible to apply for the ANZ Rewards Black credit card if you meet the minimum income requirement of least $75,000 per year with your superannuation income and meet the other application criteria stated in the bottom of the review page. This credit card currently offers 75,000 bonus points.

      Cheers,

      Jonathan

    Hi There

Is paying bills for materials purchase in my business eligible for rewards points
Also what is the capped per month?

    • Staff
      MayAugust 2, 2016Staff

      Hi Joe,

      Thanks for your inquiry.

For ANZ Rewards Black credit card, eligible purchases exclude cash, cash equivalent transactions, balance transfers, premiums paid for ANZ Credit Card Insurance and transactions for gambling or gaming purposes. So, if you’ve just used your card for purchases from a store, then that should be considered as eligible and can earn rewards points.

There is no capping of points for ANZ Rewards Black Credit Card, so you can earn points as many as you can with this card.

      Cheers,
      May

      Hi Fred,

      Thanks for your question.

Eligible purchases are purchases for goods and services but don’t include purchase returns and other credits. For the purpose of earning Rewards Points, eligible purchases exclude fees, cash, cash equivalent transactions, balance transfers, premiums paid for ANZ Credit Card Insurance and transactions for gambling or gaming purposes.

I hope this answers your question.

what are your international transaction fees on your credit cards?

    • Staff
      AnndyMay 27, 2016Staff

      Hi Jane,

      Thanks for your comment.

Please note that finder.com.au is a financial comparison website and is not ANZ.

Nevertheless, ANZ charges overseas transaction fee of 3% of the value of your withdrawal or purchases. If you use a non-ANZ ATM, you will also incur an overseas ATM transaction fee of $5 per withdrawal. Moreover, most ATM operators charge a fee for using their machine.

      Cheers,
      Anndy

Hi, with the 75k ANZ points, what would this convert to if you transfer it to Virgin Velocity or Singapore KrisFlyer?

      Hi Ben,

      Thanks for your comment.

If you have ANZ Rewards Black Credit Card, you can redeem in multiples of 2 Reward Points for 1 Velocity Frequent Flyer Point. For 75,000 ANZ points, that is equivalent to 37,500 Velocity Frequent Flyer Points. Please note that starting June 1, 2016, the ANZ minimum transfer is 3,000 ANZ Reward Points for 1,500 Velocity Frequent Flyer Points according to ANZ website. You should allow up to 5 business days for Velocity Points to be allocated to your Account, and you must be a member of the Velocity Program.

Also, if you want to exchange your ANZ Reward Points for Krisflyer Miles, you can redeem an initial minimum of 6,000 Reward Points for 2,000 KrisFlyer Miles and additional multiples of 3,000 Reward Points thereafter. It could take up to 14 business days for Kris Flyer Miles to be allocated to your account. You should be a member of the Krisflyer Program to initiate the conversion of points.

I hope this answers your question.

      Cheers,
      Anndy

I want to apply, and qualify for the card with wage etc. But have applied for a few cards 3 or 4 years ago and didn’t get them and am worried if I apply and get rejected it will affect my credit rating. I do have a home loan I think I shouldn’t be rejected but don’t want to run the risk. Can you apply at the bank where they could assess you without the possibility of getting rejected?

    • Staff
      MayMay 24, 2016Staff

      Hi Mick,

      Thanks for your question.

Please note that all applications for credit and overdue accounts, as well as payment defaults, will be held on your credit file for 5 years. While this information is still present in your credit file, this will be seen by a credit provider and this will also be a factor for your chance of being approved or rejected if you will apply for a new line of credit. Enquiries about credit will also be recorded. It will show what financial institutions you have approached and asked for credit, including utility providers, telecommunications, finance companies, and banks.

So if you have a plan on applying for a credit card today, you’d be best to contact the bank or card issuer directly and discuss your chances of approval before your submit your application. This way, you’ll avoid another enquiry to be recorded in your file.

      I hope this helps.

      Cheers,
      May
