The ANZ Rewards Black has one of the biggest bonus point offers and earn rates on the market right now. To give you an example of the value you can get from the 180,000 bonus points offer, you could redeem them for $800 worth of David Jones or Woolworths Supermarket e-Gift cards (four $200 gift cards).

It also earns 2 Reward Points per $1 spent on eligible purchases for the first $5,000 per statement period and 1 point per $1 spent after that. If you’re a frequent flyer, you can transfer these points to a partner loyalty program, including Air New Zealand Airpoints, Singapore Airlines Krisflyer or Asia Miles – or redeem points for gift cards and merchandise directly.

How to apply

If you've compared your options and picked the ANZ Rewards Black, you can apply online in around 5 minutes. Get started by checking that you meet the eligibility criteria listed below, as well as the documents and details you'll need to fill out the application.

Eligibility criteria

  • Residency requirement. Citizens and permanent residents of Australia are eligible to apply. If you are a non-Australian permanent resident, you must have an eligible working or business visa with at least 9 months remaining.
  • New cardholder. To earn the bonus points, you must be a new ANZ Rewards customer. This means you must not currently hold an ANZ Rewards Black, ANZ Rewards Platinum or ANZ Rewards credit card – and must not have opened or closed one of these accounts in the last 12 months.

Card benefits

  • Bonus points. Receive 180,000 bonus Reward Points when you spend $2,000 on eligible purchases within the first 3 months from card approval. The bonus points will be credited to your account within three months of when the spend requirement is met.
  • First-year annual fee waiver. Save with a $0 annual fee for the first year (reverting to $375 thereafter).

Rates & fees

  • Annual fee. Outside of any promotions, this card charges a $375 annual fee. This includes a $320 Annual Account Fee and a $55 Rewards Program Service Fee.
  • Purchase rate. Unless you repay your balance before the end of the statement period, your purchases will collect interest at a rate of 20.24% p.a.

Is there minimum spend per person to be eligible for oversea travel insurance? We have an ANZ rewards black card and bought cruise tickets for the family. What is the alliance emergency contact in Fiji and New Calidonea? Thanks

      Hello Lin,

      Thank you for your comment.

One of the eligibility criteria to the complimentary travel insurance of the ANZ Rewards Black Credit Card is to at least used AUD$250* in total for transport costs (airfares and/or cruise) and/or land content (tours, hire cars or other hired transport and accommodation) before you went on your trip. You may contact Allianz Global Assistance in case of emergency claim when you’re in Fiji and New Calidonea. The phone number is found on their website.

Is BPay an eligible purchase on the ANZ black credit card?

      Hello CT,

Yes, for ANZ, payments using BPAY would count as an eligible purchase as long as the item or service you are paying for is considered an “eligible purchase”

Purchases which are not eligible to earn Rewards Points are described in the ANZ Rewards – Rewards Program Terms and Conditions booklet, for example fees, cash, cash equivalent transactions, balance transfers, premiums paid for ANZ Credit Card Insurance and transactions for gambling or gaming purposes will not earn Reward Points.

Please note that some card providers don’t allow you to earn rewards points on BPAY payments, and some will process the payment as a cash advance. It would still always be a good idea to get in touch with the card providers directly to ask for clarification and assurance on this. Also, asking the merchant or service provider that you would be paying if they will process the payment as a purchase would not hurt at all.

      Hope this helped.

      Cheers,
      Gru

    Hi,

I have been approved for the ANZ black rewards credit card on 01/08/2017. I have had this card last year and cancelled it on 17/08/2016. If I activate the new card after 17/08/2017 will I still qualify for the 75,000 bonus rewards points?

Is the condition for not having the existing card in the last twelve months from the approval date of the new card or activation date of the new card?

    Thanks.

      Hi John,

Thanks for your inquiry. Please note that we are not affiliated with ANZ or any company we feature on our site and so we can only offer you general advice.

The offer is not available if you have currently closed an ANZ Rewards, ANZ Rewards Platinum or ANZ Rewards Black credit card within the previous twelve months.

This offer applies only once per eligible customer. Your application must be approved and you must activate the card and make $2,500 worth of eligible purchases within three months of approval to receive the bonus Reward Points. Eligible Purchase means purchases which are eligible to earn Reward Points.

You can be eligible for this offer after 12 months that you have canceled your ANZ Black Rewards credit card. You may confirm this info by contacting ANZ directly.

      Cheers,
      Rench

      Hi Warren,

      Thank you for your inquiry.

The complimentary access to participating airport lounges is available to eligible ANZ Rewards Black and ANZ Frequent Flyer Black cardholders including their additional cardholders only. If your partner is your additional cardholder, then she will also be eligible for the lounge access, otherwise, no.

To gain complimentary access to a Participating Lounge you must present:
      a. your Eligible Card; and
      b. a current and valid flight boarding pass in the same name as the Eligible Card, at the entrance to the Participating Lounge.

The participating airport lounges can be found on velocelounges.com and are subject to change.

      Hope this helps.

      Hi Mark,

      Thank you for your enquiry.

Please note that ANZ Rewards Program points cannot redeem points or miles with Qantas Frequent Flyer or with Emirates Skywards Frequent Flyer program.

ANZ Rewards lets you redeem your Reward Points for points or miles with Air New Zealand, Cathay Pacific Asia Miles, Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer or Velocity Frequent Flyer. You may want to check our guide on transferring frequent flyer points for more details on how to transfer points to these frequent flyer programs.

You may also check Qantas flyer credit cards to see what your other options might be.

      I hope this helps.

      Kind regards,
      Jason

I already have a “Black” card with a #20,000 limit from one of your competitors (one of the “big” 4) but now retired no longer have a salary – just my super. Do you have some type of “transfer recognition” if I come over to ANZ and what bonus points would be available e.g. on an ANZ rewards black card if you are able to give me recognition.
    Thanks in anticipation. M

Hi Madison, thanks for your inquiry!

Whilst there is no ‘transfer recognition’ system between banks, you are eligible to apply for the ANZ Rewards Black credit card if you meet the minimum income requirement of least $75,000 per year with your superannuation income and meet the other application criteria stated in the bottom of the review page. This credit card currently offers 75,000 bonus points.

      Cheers,

      Jonathan

      Hi Joe,

      Thanks for your inquiry.

For ANZ Rewards Black credit card, eligible purchases exclude cash, cash equivalent transactions, balance transfers, premiums paid for ANZ Credit Card Insurance and transactions for gambling or gaming purposes. So, if you’ve just used your card for purchases from a store, then that should be considered as eligible and can earn rewards points.

There is no capping of points for ANZ Rewards Black Credit Card, so you can earn points as many as you can with this card.

      Hi Fred,

      Thanks for your question.

Eligible purchases are purchases for goods and services but don’t include purchase returns and other credits. For the purpose of earning Rewards Points, eligible purchases exclude fees, cash, cash equivalent transactions, balance transfers, premiums paid for ANZ Credit Card Insurance and transactions for gambling or gaming purposes.

I hope this answers your question.

      Hi Jane,

      Thanks for your comment.

Please note that finder.com.au is a financial comparison website and is not ANZ.

Nevertheless, ANZ charges overseas transaction fee of 3% of the value of your withdrawal or purchases. If you use a non-ANZ ATM, you will also incur an overseas ATM transaction fee of $5 per withdrawal. Moreover, most ATM operators charge a fee for using their machine.

      Cheers,
      Anndy
