The new Australian $10 note design has been revealed
While Banjo Paterson and Dame Mary Gilmore have not received a personal makeover, their surroundings have.
The design for the highly anticipated new $10 Australian bank note has been revealed by the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) today, but hold your horses - it isn’t due into circulation until September 2017.
Key aspects of the current note are carried over in the new design for ease of recognition, including the two famous Australian writers Dame Mary Gilmore and AB ‘Banjo’ Paterson.
RBA governor Philip Lowe said, “Their work is recognised in several design elements on the banknote, including images of a pen nib in two of the clear windows and excerpts of their poetry in microprint.”
Each new banknote will proudly feature a different species of native wattle and bird, with the new and improved $10 note hosting the Bramble Wattle and the Sulphur-crested Cockatoo.
Not just a pretty face - the new $10 note is smarter and safer too.
In line with the new $5 bank note which was launched into circulation September 2016, the new $10 design features tiny bumps indicating its denominational value to the vision-impaired members of our community. The new $5 was the first of its kind in Australia.
The note features a range of new security features such as the top-to-bottom clear window and the rolling colour effect which have been implemented in a bid to keep the notes secure from counterfeiting.
Now that we know the design, it’s time to sit tight and wait for the real-deal to be launched later this year.
