If you own one of the millions of Toyota cars driven on Australian roads, then an insurance policy from the company that built it may seem like a good choice. What policies do Toyota Car Insurance offer?
Toyota offers comprehensive car insurance, which is a single policy that provides protection against a number of circumstances, such as fire, vandalism, theft and third party property and liability cover.

What additional options are there?
- Voluntary excess. You can reduce your premiums by choosing this optional extra. Instead of a normal premium, you would pay a voluntary excess in addition to other excesses when a claim is accepted.
- Rental car following accidental damage. Don’t be without a car while you wait for repairs. This optional extra provides you with a rental car of up to $60 per day for either a period of 10 days, until repairs are complete or your car is considered a total loss.
- Excess-free glass cover. This optional extra means your windscreen, sunroof glass or window glass will be replaced without excess in the event of any accidental damage, so long as the only damage is to your glass.
Are there any exclusions?
All insurance policies have a range of exclusions that apply, so be sure to check the fine print and discuss exclusions with your insurance broker before taking on a new policy. In general, your claim will be rejected if damage, loss or injury occurs due to:
- Depreciation, wear and tear, rust or corrosions
- Mechanical, structural or electronic breakdown or malfunction
- Faulty workmanship or incomplete repairs prior to a claim
- Use of contaminated fuel through an unlicensed fuel distributor
- Your vehicle being used in an unsafe way or while in an unroadworthy condition
- Use in motor sports or contests
- Unlawful use or legal seizure
- Use by an unlicensed driver
- Use by a driver under the influence of alcohol, drugs or otherwise impaired
- Any intentional or deliberate damage by you or someone with your permission
What excess do I need to pay?
An excess is the amount you pay when your claim is accepted. There are six types of excess that can apply to your claims, which are:
- Basic excess: A standard excess that applies to each claim you make.
- Age excess: Applies if the driver during the accident is under 25 years old.
- Licence excess: Applies where the driver has held a licence for under two years or holds an overseas, probationary or provisional licence or learner’s permit.
- Special excess: Applies where your circumstances impact the risk of an incident, such as modifications to your car or due to your driving, criminal or insurance history.
- Undisclosed driver excess: Applies if the driver was under the age of 25 and was not nominated as a driver on your policy.
- Voluntary excess: Applies if you have selected this as an optional extra in your policy.
How do I lodge a claim with Toyota Car Insurnace?
There are a few things to do if you are involved in an accident or covered event. Try to prevent any further loss or damage, so long as it is safe to do so, and contact any appropriate emergency services. Collect the vehicle, licence and contact details of any drivers involved and retain any official reports and documents.
