NBN Co is providing a free fibre upgrade program that could make you eligible for NBN 1000 speeds.
NBN Co's upgrade programs aimed to give more than 10 million homes and businesses, around 90% of the fixed-line network, access to its fastest wholesale speeds by the end of 2025. Upgrades for the remaining premises on fibre-to-the-node (FTTN), around 622,000 homes and businesses, are expected to be completed by the end of 2030, with most able to move to fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP).
To trigger the upgrade, you'll need to sign up for an NBN 100 plan or faster. Simply visit NBN Co's website, enter your address, and check your eligibility.
NBN 1000, also known as Ultrafast internet, offers a maximum download speed of 1000Mbps and upload speeds of 100Mbps.

The upload speed was recently bumped from its original 50Mbps to 100Mbps at no extra cost following the NBN's September speed upgrades.
Some providers may offer faster upload speeds (such as Aussie Broadband on its Pro plans), but those aren't the norm.
The actual speeds you get on NBN 1000 will depend on the provider you sign up with and what they've advertised as their typical evening speed.

"I got gigabit internet in my new apartment and it's been an absolute game changer. Super fast uploads and downloads, great quality streaming and video game streaming works like a charm. Even if you're just browsing the internet, it's amazing to have better internet than I have in my office! I ended up going with Exetel because they had the best price at the time."
Our top tip is to always try a lower speed tier first before committing money towards faster internet speeds.
