The launch also marks changes across some of the other speed tiers:
- Home Fast (NBN 100) has jumped from 100/20Mbps to 500/50Mbps, making it five times faster. This will be the new NBN 500 speed tier.

How fast is NBN 2000?
NBN 2000 plans are twice as fast as an NBN 1000 plan and are capable of reaching download speeds of up to 2000Mbps (2Gbps).
Upload speeds will depend on your NBN connection type. Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) customers can get up to 200Mbps, while Hybrid Fibre Coaxial (HFC) connections are limited to a maximum of 100Mbps.
Business-grade NBN 2000 plans are also available, offering faster upload speeds of 500Mbps.
Basically, speeds on an NBN 2000 plan are extremely fast - or Hyperfast, as it is officially called.
You can connect 30+ devices at the same time, or to put it another way, it's fast enough to download a 4GB Ultra HD video in approximately 16 seconds.
Can I get an NBN 2000 plan at my address?
You can sign up for an NBN 2000 plan if you have an FTTP or HFC connection.
Enter your address in the box to find out your NBN connection type if you're unsure.
Free NBN upgrade to FTTP
NBN Co is on track to upgrade 10 million premises to FTTP from Fibre to the Node (FTTN) and Fibre to the Curb (FTTC) by the end of 2025.
Enter your address on NBN Co's website to see if you're eligible for a free upgrade.
If you are, and your property is ready, the upgrade will be triggered when you sign up for an NBN 100 plan or above with an eligible provider such as TPG, Optus, Telstra, Superloop or Aussie Broadband.

However, the cheapest plan costs $165 a month, so it definitely pays to shop around.
What equipment will I need to get on an NBN 2000 plan?
NBN Co will first need to install an upgraded NTD (Network Termination Device), with either a 1-port or 4-port version.
For example, Leaptel's website says it'll connect you to the 'best plan available at your address first' and once the installation has happened, it'll switch you over to NBN 2000.
You will also ideally need a Wi-Fi 7 modem/router with at least a 2Gbps WAN port to make the most out of your internet plan.
Some providers, such as Superloop and Southern Phone, may offer a free Wi-Fi 7 modem if you stay connected for a certain period of time - either 12 or 24 months, with 24 months being more common.
Did you know?
Do I need NBN 2000 speeds?
The honest answer is, probably not. NBN 50 and NBN 100 are still the most popular speed tiers in Australia.
We expect NBN 100 to become the default as FTTP upgrades roll out and with NBN Co's free speed boosts. The price gap between NBN 50 and NBN 100 is also shrinking, especially now that NBN 100 plans can reach up to 500Mbps from September.
NBN 2000, on the other hand, may appeal to households with multiple heavy internet users today, and even more so in the future as homes fill up with more connected devices.
