The average Australian earns $1,500 a week
The highest earners live in the ACT and WA.
Average weekly earnings for full-time working Australians have risen modestly in the past 12 months, with those in the mining industry taking home the highest wages, according to new research.
The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) Average Weekly Earnings November 2016 shows that over the last year average weekly ordinary earnings rose 2.2% to $1,533.10.
Those working in the public sector earned an average $1,674.00 per week and those working full-time in the private sector pulled in $1,495.70 each week.
Australian miners topped the list of average weekly earnings in November, banking $2,572.40 per week.
Workers in the accommodation and food services experienced the lowest weekly wages at $1,108.30.
Information, media and telco workers, financial and insurance services staff and electricity, gas, water and waste services employees took home between $1,780 and $1,840, well above average weekly earnings.
The Australian Capital Territory ($1,747) and Western Australia ($1,703.20) were the states with highest average incomes.
Tasmanians received the lowest average weekly takings at $1,345.10.
Some employees make salary sacrifices, forgoing part of their pay in return for similarly valued benefits. Examples include pre-tax superannuation fund contributions and novated car leases.
On average, full-time working Australians sacrificed $50.90, down $1,40 from May 2016.

Separately, the ABS revealed wage growth remained stagnant through the December quarter 2016.

Wow, wish we were on the average income. My hubby works full time, (starts early hour) in a supermarket and only receives $845 before tax weekly.
I’m sure there are a lot of workers receiving even less.
