Hi RJ,
Yes, Star Alliance Points can be transferred to Air Canada Aeroplan, with every 1,000 Star Alliance Points converting to 800 Aeroplan points. I hope this helps.

I am already a lifetime gold member with United. I read somewhere that I can opt out of being granted gold status for minimum spend and get a credit of 40000 Star Alliance points for doing so year after year. Can you confirm that this is correct, and if so, how can I do that during the application process?

Hi Thom,
Yes, you could get 40,000 Star Alliance Points instead of status but it’s not an option you can choose during the application process. According to the terms and conditions, it requires you to meet the requirements for gold status and to not select a frequent flyer program that you wish to have status with (referred to as a Participating Status FFP). You’d then need to wait for the period when you could choose a Participating Status FPP to end (referred to as the Qualification Period). If you have further questions about status or points with this card, you may want to contact Star Alliance Australia or HSBC directly. I hope this helps.

Are there restriction on self funded retires applying for this card?

Hi Dennis,
There is a $75,000 annual minimum income requirement with this card but if you want to check what HSBC would consider as eligible income, you could call the sales team on 1300 131 605. I hope this helps.

Hi, what does eligible purchase mean? Can we use it to pay bills and earn points for it?

Amy Bradney-George Finder
August 24, 2023
Hi Olga,
Eligible purchases cover most everyday spending, including groceries, petrol, dining, health and beauty services. It may be possible to earn points on some bills if credit card payment is offered by the biller, but BPAY payments do not earn points. Other transactions that are not eligible include cash transfers, cash advances and government fees and charges. If you have a question about a particular bill or bills, it’s a good idea to check with HSBC directly through the bank’s website, app or by calling 1300 308 008. I hope this helps.

Hi there
How do I know which lounges allow access to this card holder? It says over 1,000, but I would like to know at which airports.
Thanks

Hi Sanjay,
Lounge access is offered to people who meet the requirements for the Introductory Star Alliance Gold Status offer. The lounges are part of the Star Alliance network, so you may want to view different options using the search tool on the Star Alliance website. You can also contact Star Alliance through the website. If you have further questions about this card or the offer, you can also contact HSBC on 132 152. I hope this helps.

Can Star Alliance Points be transferred or used to book on Aeroplan (Air Canada) with an Australia based HSBC Star Alliance card? Or is that a different zone within the group?
