NBN upgrades incoming: All the suburbs that can get faster Internet
These upgrades mean you'll get access to 10 times more speed than your current NBN connection.
NBN Co is giving the green light to 300,000 homes and businesses to benefit from Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) upgrades free of cost.
This will come as a relief to anyone on the Fibre to the Node (FTTN) connection which is known for offering sub-par NBN speeds.
Normally it would cost you around $15,000 to upgrade.
"We're very pleased to announce the latest list of suburbs and towns across Australia – from Avalon Beach on Sydney's northern beaches peninsula to Fremantle, Western Australia," Kathrine Dyer, chief operating officer at NBN Co said in a media release.
"We will launch a small-scale pilot of the FTTN to FTTP upgrade program to enable the first eligible premises to access a higher speed NBNâ„¢ Home Fast, NBNâ„¢ Home Superfast or NBNâ„¢ Home Ultrafast service via their chosen Internet retailer in November this year."
Why is this NBN upgrade so important?
Households struggling with 25-50Mbps speeds will finally be able to avoid buffering Internet issues when the upgrade rolls around to their premises.
This will especially benefit households of 4 or above that are logged on simultaneously.
Given NBN providers these days are always offering hefty discounts, you can get faster speeds for cheaper prices, at least for your first 6 months.
One of the cheapest NBN 100 plans in our database from Superloop will cost you $69.95 monthly for the first 6 months, then $89.95 a month after that.
Similarly, you can get NBN 250 for only $94.90 a month for the first 6 months with Tangerine, then $109.90 a month thereafter. There's no lock-in contract so you can always leave if your need for speed isn't that great after all.
